It would at first instance when we think of this 2 words Love and Prophesy. It would seem easier to focus on Love. Well at least that is within our control. To love somebody or not love somebody.
But to Prophesy, that is a matter left best to the Lord. best left to the grace of God.And thus we begin this dichotomy of choosing love over propesying.
Both incidentally comes from God although we can imitate and plugged into wrong source of love and prophesy. Namely the devil and our own human spiirt.
Therefore all prophesy is to be checked. And the church is the place for accountability to check and balance. However we must not throw the baby out together with the bath water just becasue most of the time we do not understand the working of the Spirit in our Lives.
Why is it an empty cymbal without love ?
Prophesies give us a purpose in our Christian walk.
Love gives the meaning to our life here on earth.
WIthout knowing the thoughts of God, without knowing the purpose and direction, the heartbeat of Jesus CHrist and the drumbeat of the Holy SPirit for the Church and not only for our own personal lives,then we are a bunch of individuals having some religious experience.
But the Lord establish His Church here on earth and He being the Commander in chief still directs from on High.
Prophesy gives us insight and revelation . Paul says as often as we meet we are to bring a psalm, a revelatuion, a word.
We all have the spirit and mind of christ. We all have the spirit of revelation by virtue that we are the temple of the Holy Spirit. If personal revelations or one to one revelations, are mini prophesy, then Prophesy is revelatio opf Jesus Christ to a larger mass of people, even is Church.
But always focusing on the big picture, the macro view makes us detached and impersonal, not the spirit of love and definitely not the spirit of Christ. We are to engage the world in a personal way. And while prophesy engages us with God's purpose, Love will channel that prophetic engagement into faith driven works for the Kingdom of God.
With Prophecy God shows the Church His purpose.
With Love the Church shows the World God's purpose
With Prophecy, God establishes His purpose in our Life
With Love, God establishes His meaning to our Life
WIth Prophecy, God shows us the big and small picture
With Love God, shows us how the Big and small connects.
Therefore, just as we cannot always focus on human relationship in a coporation to the exclusion of other priorities, putting the desire of the individual above the collective whole and the mission of the coporation, we must not disadvantaged Prophesy just because out of our own ignorance we despise it.
We must embrace all that we can have in the Spirit of Christ and not choose as if its a menu. Our is not the right to choose, our is the privilege to ask and its the grace of CHrist to apportioned His gifts as He will via the Holy Spirit. Ours is the duty to conquer every thing between our feet and our promised land.
