Zhou Zhuang is an ancient water town of Kunshan City in Jiangsu Province and where rivers and lakes abound.
It is located between the cities Shanghai and Suzhou. The history of the town has 900 years and the typical
style and features of the water town and even its inhabitants' way of life remains unchanged.
Building
The houses built by the streams have sidewalks. The streams have naturally evolved
into streets and used for transportation and together along with the water lanes. The layout
of its water lanes is perfectly arranged so that it is very convenient to transportation.
Bridges
Overhead stone bridges span over the water lanes which providing convenient
passage for the local people. Streams flow under small bridges and courtyards.
These bridges and courtyards are each surrounded by dwelling which are typical
features of Zhouzhuang.
This is my friend who visited Zhouzhuang last year.
She send these beautiful pictures to me. Now she lives
in Shanghai.
