     European Birds of Prey

This site is an attempt to provide information about all the birds of prey found in Europe. Unfortunately, there are some birds of prey about which very little is known so there will be gaps. If anyone would like to help me fill these gaps I would be very grateful, and credit will be given on the Acknowledgements page (e-mail addresses are at the bottom of this page). Likewise, if anyone would like to provide photos to replace paintings I would also be very grateful, and (of course) give credit and a link (where provided).

I have tried to provide a measurement range for length, wingspan and weight. The egg size (where provided) is the average for each species. Lifespan is given as the maximum known for the bird; the actual expected longevity will generally be much lower.

The conservation status is given with respect to "Birds In The European Union - A Status Assessment", Nov 2004. It is available for download from Birdlife International.

The IUCN Red List is also refered to for conservation status. The category explanations are found here -> IUCN
