Norfolk Island: 1848-1854
George Joseph Sheppard's first posting to Norfolk Island was about Septemeber 1848 until May 1850. He returned to Norfolk in October 1851 and appears to have remained ther euntil January 1854..

Sometime between April of 1851 and January 1852, George was joined by his wife Matilda and 8 year old daughter Matilda Ann. It is possible that Thomas Chick,  Matilda's son from her first marriage, also accompanied the family. Daughter Elizabeth Emma is born on Norfolk Island on 17th October 1852.

Whilst serving on Norfolk George was awarded Good Conduct Pay [and possibly a Good Conduct Badge] for apprehending deserters [1853]

George returned to Norfolk Island for one last psoting between March and October 1854.

George had the unenviable task of serving on Norfolk Island at the time when Commandant John Giles Price was the Administrative Head of the Island [1846-1853] Price was known for his brutality and harsh punishments..
