Kerala, the
wonderful place where I was born, is located on the southern tip
of India and has a population of 30 million people. Known as
'gods own country', its unique geographic features have made it
one of the most wonderful place on earth.
language
The main language
spoken in kerala is Malayalam. It derived form 'Sanskrit' and
has 56 letters in its alphabet.
other
languages
Apart from
Malayalam a good portion of people also speak English and 90% of
the office work is carried out in English.
education
kerala was the
first state in India to have 100% literacy. This tremendous
achievement was a result of the implementation of 'Sacksharatha'
, means learn to read and write, among the villages by groups of
youths as voluntary work.
politics
Kerala was the
fist place in the world to have an 'elected' communist
government( 1957). The main political parties in kerala are
Communist and Congress. Interestingly BJP, the party which rules
India, had never won a seat in kerala in its history. Another
strange thing about politics in kerala is in every election its
the opposition party who get the lead, and it has been happening
since the second election.
weather
kerala has an
equable climate and is a typical example for a tropical place.
Temperature various between 18C and 38C. Even though the
temperature rise up to38C in summer one will hardly feel it,
thanks to the accompanying cool breeze.
GOD'S OWN COUNTRY
The reason its
known as the 'gods own country' is due to its geographical
features and culture richness. Long shoreline, fine beaches,
tranquil stretches of backwaters, village festivals and exotic
wild life are just a few essences of it. Apparently the name 'kerala'
means the country of coconut trees, which can be found almost
everywhere in kerala
