| About my materials! | |||||||||||
| As a crafter, I truly care about what materials I use when I make jewelry. I do the very best I can to obtain them at a decent price - watching the market for when silver and gold go for a lower price, finding the best deal on stones, shopping world wide, etc. Which means my materials come from all over, and I represent them to you exactly as they are represented to me. However, sometimes the color may vary in the photo due to lighting and the various differences in monitors. All sizes are approximate and photos do not depict actual size. Also - for those that are spoiled by the old silver prices - the daily silver chart is below - and as you can see, the old days are GONE - silver is twice as much now as it was 2 years ago, so my work has to reflect that - not something I like, but something simple economics has made mandatory! I am also doing more work in gold filled wire of late, and many have asked what that is - please see below for an explanation courtesy of www.wire-sculpture.com: Gold-filled wire, sometimes called rolled gold; appropriate for all types of jewelry and for most people will last their entire lifetime without showing signs of wear. It is made by forming a tube of gold and filling the tube with a base metal, usually jeweler's brass. The gold content is 5% or 1/20th if the total wire. Gold filled wire for jewelry offers an affordable, durable choice at a fraction of the cost of solid karat gold. All gold filled wire I use is 14/20 - which means 14k gold at 1/20th of the wire. Care for is just as you would any other jewelry as it is quite durable. |
