| 32. A LOVE STORY. Susan pregnant by boyfriend of seven years, Greg. Susan: Honest Dad it�s nothing serious. Father: That�s what your Mum said. Susan: I�m fine, I�m in the pink, I�m just pregnant. ****************************************** Father and brother visit Greg on a farm, to see if he is going to marry Susan. Geoff and Kate also there on Clinic Run. Geoff: Kate, they�ve got firearms in their vehicle. Kate: What did you expect, fishing rods! ****************************************** Susan loses baby, Geoff brings her to Hospital to do tests and repair damage, Greg comes along. Geoff and Kate walking back from hospital to base. Kate: Susan�s been keeping house for Ted and Stewy for years, she looks after the shearers, she musters, she holds her pilot�s licence, I mean she�s a good bloke to have around! Geoff: She does�nt have to put up with it. Kate: None of your city feminism for us country girls, the man�s the boss and the girl does as she�s told! Greg comes out of pub after townsfolk congratulated him on forthcoming marriage. Greg: G�day Doc, Kate, everything alright? Geoff: No complications. Greg: Catch you later then. Kate: That�s it, is it? Greg: Beg your pardon. Kate: Just who do you think you are, you kept Susan dangling for years. She could have had a husband, her own home, a tribe of kids, that�s all she ever wanted. But you, you lob into the district for three months, and lob out again, take a good look at yourself Mr. Wonderful, are you such a prize catch that you can afford to turn your back on a girl like that! Greg asks Geoff for advice. He advises Greg to talk to Susan, she turns him down. Greg goes to talk to Geoff, in the pub having drink with Kate and DJ. Greg: �Cuse me Doc, can I have a word. It�s, it�s about Sue. I talked with her like you said, but, she�s gone and turned me down flat. Pretty mad she was, so what do I do now? Geoff: Well did she say why she was angry? Greg: Well nothing that made any sense to me. What�s wrong with her Doc? Geoff: Well Kate, you�re her friend, do you have any idea�s? Kate: I�m only a nurse, you�re the expert on medical matters. Geoff: I�d value your opinion. Kate: Well, apart from the mood swings, caused by hormonal fluctuations, I�d say she�s very upset at losing the baby and in need of comfort and reassurance. Geoff: Did you tell her you loved her? Greg: Well no. Geoff: Well why on earth not? Greg: Well I told her that years ago, she would�nt have forgotten, not Sue! Geoff: Well what did you talk about, the latest prices for fat lamb? Greg: Well it�s just that I�m not very good at that sort of thing, but Doc. would you talk with her, sort of pave the way for me. Geoff: Well you�re the one who wants to marry the girl! Greg: Yeah, I know, but, but just talk with her, so I can have a chance to explain things, please Doc. ****************************************** In Hospital, Geoff talks to Susan. Susan: �Cause I was angry, they all take me for granted, my own fault I suppose. Greg used to notice me, now I�ve got to be a habit with him too. Geoff: What do you want Susan? Susan: �Bout time someone asked me that! Geoff: Well? Susan: Now you�ve asked me, I don�t know. Geoff: Do you love Greg? Susan: Yes. Geoff: Do you want to marry him? Susan: Yes, I want, I need to know that he lovves me. Geoff: Fair go, he says he told you that years ago, how could you forget! Susan laughs. ****************************************** At the wedding, Geoff Bestman, Kate Bridesmaid. Later Geoff and Kate walking across stepping stones by the river. Geoff walking in front of Kate. Geoff: Well that worked out really well, did�nt it? Kate: Umm. Just think, they may never of �gotten married, if it had�nt been for you. Geoff: That�s right. They did�nt talk to each other. Could�ve gone on for years like that. Kate: Maybe. Well they�re both shy. They�re just not used to saying what they feel. (Geoff turns round, he and Kate look deep into each others eyes) Geoff: Kate, I, I�����(Geoff steps back, falls into the river.
