SECOND CHANCE Emma and Paula have driven to Fullers Creek to retreive a broken down truck. Emma�s arm has become trapped under the truck and the creek is in danger of flooding. Geoff and David are called out to rescue Emma but they may have to amputate her arm to save her from drowning. Eventually, George Baxter arrives with a tractor and pulls the truck away to release Emma. Later in the day Geoff and David have a conversation about whether Geoff should have amputated Emma�s arm. David said he would have done this. Geoff feels he put Emma�s life at risk by hesitating. SCENE1: Geoff is sat at his desk looking tired and upset. Kate walks in and sits on the edge of his desk. KATE: Don�t you think you are being a bit hard on yourself? GEOFF: Davids right. I almost let her die. KATE: Rubbish. GEOFF: I waited too long, Icould have killed her. I should have amputated when I first said I would. David would have. KATE: You saved her arm and you saved her life. GEOFF: I was scared Kate. I hesitated because it was Emma. I let my emotions get in the way, I could have killed her. KATE: You acted like a human being. GEOFF: But I�m a doctor first. KATE: A doctor with feelings She leans forward and kisses him tenderly on the lips. KATE: They are the best doctors and the best people. Geoff looks lovingly into Kates eyes. GEOFF: Why did I wait so long before asking you to marry me? KATE: (smiles) Take me back to your place and I�ll make you regret it even more! GEOFF:Mmm, There is nothing I�d like more but I have a mountain of paperwork here, I need to make a start somewhere. KATE: (smiles) I think we can get around that! ****************************************************' SCENE 2 Geoff and Kate have gone for a walk together. They are walking through a field when Kate sees a cow and they both run towards it. KATE: I wanted you to be the first to know, Geoff and I are getting married. Kate jumps up and down with excitement. GEOFF: Do you think she can keep a secret? KATE: Oh, gosh that felt good, being able to tell someone. GEOFF: Well it's up to you, we can tell the world you know. KATE: Oh not yet! GEOFF:(smiling) Do you feel like going partying? KATE:(laughing) I thought you'd never ask! Kate starts to tickle Geoff. He picks her up and puts her over his shoulder and spins her round. She screams with laughter. **************************************************************' In the evening, there is a party in the town. Geoff and Kate turn up and take to the dance floor. They are both smiling and gazing at each other as they dance. KATE: I had a lovely day today doctor! GEOFF: My pleasure, Nurse Wellings! Nancy and Vic notice them dancing together. So does George Baxter. KATE: How good are you at lip reading? Geoff shrugs his shoulders. GEOFF: Try me. Kate mouths to Geoff �I love you.� He smiles at her and also says; �I love you.� Unfortunately, Paula sees this and gasps; "Did you see that? I knew that! I knew that!� |
