| Repeat Performance Preparations for Sam and Emma�s wedding are well underway. Kevin Wright has organised a re-inactment of Jim Regan�s ride through Coopers Crossing. At the same time Chris, and Joanne Wright bringing Joanne�s daughter overland on a donkey, she has diphtheria. Because of heavy rain, radio is out of action, plane can�t take off because of flooded Airstrip. Take her by donkey to neighbouring homestead to get help. Flying in the Nomad, Geoff, Sam, Kate and Kevin Wright aboard. Sam: One more stop and we�ll be on our way to the Crossing. Kevin: Thanks for the lift, the re-inactment of Jim Regan�s ride was really my idea, so I want to make sure the rehearsal goes alright. Geoff: (reading, not paying attention) I thought you�d already had a rehearsal. Kate: (laughs) Not the wedding, Jim Regan�s ride. Kevin: It�s what brought the RFDS to Coopers Crossing. Jim Regan had a son who got tetanus, Jim put the boy on a camel to bring him into town to the Doc. He went day and night, as he got to the town, right at the Drs. door the boy died. The distance had killed him, the isolation. Kate: At the time John Flynn was selling the idea of a Flying Dr. �a mantle of safety over the bush� he called it, so the locals got together and raised the money and they got a Flying Dr. Base here. Just think Geoff, if it was�nt for Jim Regan�s ride you would�nt be here now. Geoff: How long ago was this? Kevin: About 57 yrs. not long, it�ll still kill you, take the planes away, take the radios away, take away John Flynn�s �mantle of safety�, and isolation out there will still kill ya. (they are all looking out of the Nomad window) One of the greatest men this country ever had. My father shook his hand once. ****************************************** Emma taken to Church on a float. As Emma walks down the aisle, the remote beeper goes off. Chris calling for help, needs an E-Vac in a hurry. DJ. answers the call, Geoff beckons Sam to go. Sam: (to Emma) Bit of an emergency mate, but we�ll be back. Geoff, DJ, Sam rush out of the Church, Geoff grabs Kate�s arm, beckons her to go as well. ****************************************** In Nomad Sam takes off in a rush, causing the plane to jolt. Kate and Geoff setting up their equipment both fall onto the stretcher, their faces very close. Geoff gets up and glances back at Kate still on the stretcher. She gives him a broad smile and he smiles back. Chris, Joanne and daughter brought back to Coopers Crossing, Emma and Sam finally married, Kate catches the bouquet. ****************************************** |
