Kate and Geoff about to leave on overnight stop Clinic Run, watching Nomad land with David Radcliffe, on board, new RFDS Dr. Sam away, Debbie piloting Nomad. Geoff: (talking on radio to DJ.) They�re driving? From Broken Hill? DJ: Yeah, they wanted their holiday extended. Geoff: It�s a dreadful road though. DJ: Hey Doc. speaking of cars. How about �the beast�? Can I just turn the engine over for you? Geoff: Okay! Okay! But if you break your leg, Dr. Radcliffe will be setting it, alright? DJ: Has he arrived yet? Geoff: Just landed, see ya tomorrow. (Geoff and Kate start loading their equipment onto Nomad. David walks towards them) Geoff: Dr. Radcliffe?David: Urh, Herh. Geoff: Geoffrey Standish (shakes hand) Sister Kate Wellings. Kate: (mischievous smile on her face, shakes David�s hand) I hear the Broken Hill Nurses Home has gone into mourning since you transferred! Geoff: Oh thanks Debbie. Debbie: No worries. Geoff: When I am incredibly romantic you say I�m too sloppy. I love you, I think I�ve loved you since I first met you, and at moments like this I would�nt have to sleep in the Shearers quarters. (Kate laughs) ****************************************** Emma, Jack, and Chris involved in car crash, 2 badly injured in other car. Debbie drops off Geoff and Kate, then lands near crash site to pick up the injured, Emma and Chris. ****************************************** At the Clinic, as they walk past each other, Kate and Geoff share loving looks. Barb Jefferies, Station Owner, where Clinic is being held, coming to talk to Geoff, notices the looks between them. Barb: Finished feeding the chucks, wanna take the boots off, sink a coldy? Geoff: Urgh. (pause, Geoff has a pained look on his face) Barb: He�s gonna knock me back, I can see. Geoff: We�ve had a bad one come in at the Crossing, I�m waiting to hear if we have to fly back, help Chris. Barb: You do this to me Geoff Standish, when I�ve got another 20 people due for the Clinic tomorrow�� Geoff: �..I�m sorry, Barb. Barb: ��.You do this to me and I�ve got things in that shed, drenching pumps, triple crush emasculators! Geoff: (looks across at Kate, she just smiles) She�s threatening. Help! (pause) I may have to operate. Barb: Me too!! (Grins at Kate as she leaves) Later, Geoff and Chris talking on radio, one of the injured is brain dead, on life support. Chris: There�s nothing more you can do tonight Geoff, I suggest you run the Clinic tomorrow morning, then fly back? Geoff: This is young Jimmy McCarthy? (Chris looks at DJ.) DJ: It�s all over the District. Chris: Yes, that�s right Geoff, I need a second opinion, and there may be a kidney operation, Sydney. (kidney donation) Geoff: I see, well we can discuss that after the examinations, over and out. Kate: He�s always been a keen blood donor, it would be like him. Geoff: Look tomorrow we�ll wrap up as fast as we can. Chris sure picks a time to come back from leave. (Geoff puts his arm around Kate as they go for a walk) ****************************************** Jimmy�s parents have arrived at the Hospital, Chris and David arguing when life support should be turned off, parents are asked to make a decision. David wants to carry out Jimmy�s wishes of donating his kidneys, Chris wants to wait �til Geoff returns. ****************************************** Kate gone to bed, Geoff has to sleep in Shearers quarters, taps on her window. He�s dressed only in underpants, with blanket wrapped around. Geoff: Could�nt sleep. Kate: That�s very fetching. (looking at blanket) Geoff: $4.99, mail order special. (they both grin) Sorry, I woke you. Kate: Ah you did�nt wake me, I was thinking about Jimmy McCarthy, he�s on life support, is�nt he? Brain dead, lying there. Geoff: Probably, from what we hear on the radio, most probably. Kate: I�d hate that. Geoff: You would�nt know about it. Kate: I�d want someone to pull the plug on me, if I ever, would you do that for me? Geoff: I think only a husband can do that. Kate: Argh I see, blackmail now is it? You�d want ME to marry you? (Geoff attempts to climb into Kate�s window) Geoff: Urgh, Herh. Kate: You�d wan�..(the dogs are on Geoff�s trail, start barking, waking up one and all) Geoff: (looking around) Say you will, now? Kate: Shhhh! Geoff: Say you wi�.(Kate closes window quickly, trapping Geoff�s blanket, as he turns blanket stays firmly in window frame, Geoff left standing in only his underpants. Barb arrives to investigate all the noise, Geoff begins to jog) Barb: That old fox again is it Valour? (then sees Geoff) Dr. Geoffrey Standish I presume? Geoff: Out jogging! (jogs off to the Shearers quarters) Barb: Why did�nt I think of that! (walks past Kate�s window, gives it a finger wave. When she�s gone Kate pops her head up at the window. (smiling) ****************************************** Geoff confirms Jimmy is brain dead, parents decide to switch off machine, so organs can be donated. Wife gives birth to baby son. ****************************************** At Base, walking past each other near Chris�s office door, Geoff kisses Kate�s cheek, then when they pass again, Geoff touches her back, Kate giggles. Chris comes out of her office. Chris: Paula says you two are getting married? Kate: Oh does she. Geoff: She�s right, I�ve underestimated that girl�s intelligence. Kate: No you have�nt. Chris: Well, are you or are�nt you? Geoff & Kate: (together) Geoff: Yes. Kate: Maybe. Chris: Maybe, it�s abit wimpy is�nt it, maybe? Geoff: Oh don�t knock it, I�ve achieved that from a definite No. I ask her, she won�t say Yes, if there�s no wedding, it�s not my fault. Kate: Everyone would make such a fuss, well its not easy in a town this size, it�d get out of hand, you know what they�re like. They�d have me on a float or something! (Geoff and Chris keep staring at her) What if��(pause)��Well as long as it could be��.(pause)�.Oh dear, I don�t know��.(pause)��Oh to hell with it. Why not?
