Sam: Doing? argh what should I be doing, humm, well the Dr. there does the flying, What could the Pilot be doing? DJ: How did she bribe you to get at the controls? Sam: Argh, umm, I�m taking out the next appendix. DJ: As long as its not mine! Nomad about to land. Sam: Thank you Dr. my aircraft. ****************************************** Clinic completed, Chris, Kate and Sam loading equipment into the Nomad. Stranger approaches. Stranger: You could�nt give a bloke a lift to Coopers Crossing, could ya? Chr is: Oh I�m sorry there are rules, and if we had an emergency on route� Stranger: Oh just thought you might be able to drop me off. I got a kid brother back at the Crossing, anyway, no sweat, you got your regulations. Sam: Ah erh, who�s your brother? Stranger: Oh he�s one of your lot, Geoff Standish, Dr. Geoffrey Standish, MD, or whatever he is. ****************************************** Geoff and Jack out fishing. In the pub, everyone gathered at the bar, Barry telling a story, DJ. keeping watch at the door for Geoff�s arrival. DJ: He�s coming! Paula: Quick, get down. (Barry hides behind Chris, DJ. Kate and Paula) Jack and Geoff enter Pub. Vic: Been hearing all about you Geoff.. Paula: And the incident at school with the football shorts. Chris: Dah, darhh! The circle parts and Barry stands up. DJ: Hey, We moved him into your house Doc. Barry: Goodaye Broo, (walks forward to greet Geoff, shakes his hand) Good to see ya mate. Geoff: Yeah, umm. Vic, do ya have a room for my brother? Vic: To stay? Geoff: Yeah to stay. Everyone looks surprised, particularly Kate. ****************************************** At Geoff�s house, Barry re-packed his belongings preparing to return to the Pub. Barry: Thanks for getting me into the Pub. Geoff: You can afford it, can�t you? Barry: Yeah, I can afford it, severance pay, lend you some if you like. (taps his jacket pocket) Geoff: Sacked for fighting were ya, how long you gonna stay Barry? Barry shrugs his shoulders. Geoff: Not your kinda place. Barry: Would�ve thought it was more mine than yours. Geoff: Yeah okay, well do what you have to do, but don�t mess it up too much for me, eh? Barry: Hey Broo, what�s all this about, we�re brothers are�nt we? Geoff: Yeah, I�ll run ya to the Pub. Barry: (to himself) Same old Geoffrey. ****************************************** At Pub. Barry: Still got that room for a lonely traveller? Vic: Look, I�m sure Geoff did�nt mean to be rude, they work long hours ya know. Barry: Argh, my fault Vic, have�nt seen the Prof. in a few years, forgot how much he likes to be on his own. ****************************************** Chris, Jack, Kate and Geoff out walking. Geoff tossing a large stone, Kate catches it, puts it back in his hand. Kate: You going to throw that, or grow grass on it. Geoff: I thought I�d might bring it up as my own child, (looks across at Kate, Kate laughs) Appropriate would�nt you think, for Geoffrey Standish, the stone hearted? Kate: If the stone fits, I can�t understand why you don�t like him, he seems like such a nice bloke. Geoff: No, Barry has many positive qualities, nice bloke is�nt one of �em. Chris stops walking, turns round to ask Kate and Geoff. Chris: What about a cup of coffee round at my place? Geoff: Oh No thanks, (Geoff turns away and walks off, Kate joins Chris and Jack on their walk, glancing back at Geoff walking off on his own). ****************************************** Sam, Geoff, and Kate prepare for Clinic Run, loading equipment into the Nomad. Sam: This younger brother of yours, at Uni? Geoff: Kevin? Sam: Kevin, yeah. Well what about him Doc. has he got two heads or something, or is it us you�re ashamed of? Geoff: Well he works his vacations, he�s erh very independent. Sam: I�ll get him a job out here eh Kate, I�ve got a few fences that need fixing. Geoff: Huh, well you might see him, he�s quite interested in the RFDS, I�d want him to get a better Pilot than the cowboys I�ve had to put up with. Kate upset because Geoff has never talked to her about his family shoves a box into Geoff�s hands, Geoff and Sam look at each other wondering what they have done. Sam: Naturally, just give me the nod and I�ll retire, when I think what I�ve taught this bloke about brain surgery. Kate: (looking fed up, looks at her watch) Well I hate to interrupt this boys talk, but if we are going to finish the Clinic Run on time. (Geoff and Sam look at each other) ****************************************** In the Nomad. Geoff: Something I said? Kate: No. Geoff: Something I did�nt say? Kate: No. Geoff: Something in between? Kate: Look you�re the Dr. why don�t you diagnose it as neurotic nurse syndrome, and prescribe tranquillizers. Geoff: (looking hurt) That�s below the belt. Kate: Good. Sam: We�re on approach, fasten your seatbelts. Kate belts up. Kate: Did�nt you hear the man, belt up. Geoff gives Kate a hurt and dejected look. ****************************************** Barry gets Vic to call in his bad debts to get the Sports Centre built. Next day Geoff arrives at the Base, Vic talking to DJ. at his radio desk. Geoff: Private joke? DJ: It�s your brother Doc. they ought to put him in charge of the country. Geoff: What? DJ: The Sports Centre, yesterday and last night he used Vic�s bad debts to get it built. Vic: Chris is out there looking at it now. ****************************************** Jack, Chris and Kate arrive at the new Sports Centre. Jack: Well it�s not very pretty is it? Kate: Oh it�s very Coopers Crossing. Chris: Some of the leading City Architects are doing some very interesting work in galvanised iron now. Jack: Yeah, Well perhaps we should get �em up here to see it. Chris: The point is Jack����. Jack: The point is Dr. we�re off the hook. (Jack and Chris hug) ****************************************** Barry, Guest of Honour, is asked to open the Sports Centre, after his speech Geoff leaves the Centre. Kate follows him outside. Kate: Geoff, you not staying? Geoff: Argh, I�ve got some things to do, I�ve made my appearance. Kate: Don�t you think you�re being abit ungracious? Geoff: No. Kate: I mean considering the schmozel everyone has made of getting this Centre up, don�t you think what Barry�s done is pretty amazing? Geoff: Yeah, he�s pretty amazing, now if you don�t mind. Kate: Geoff! What have you got against Barry? Geoff: Look, I�ve seen him do things like this before, he�s a born leader, he gets things done. Kate: Well, What�s wrong with that, you with all you degree�s and privileges, Do you begrudge him that? Geoff: Now look what I begrudge him is that someone else pays, someone else usually picks up the bill, very often it�s me. Kate: I can�t believe I�m hearing you say this, it just seems so mean spirited. Geoff: I don�t want to talk about it, I do not want to discuss it, okay. Kate: No, No, Not okay. That�s exactly the problem Geoff, you don�t want to talk about anything about yourself, you won�t share yourself with anyone. I did�nt know you had brothers, I did�nt know you had a mother, if anyone had�ve asked me I would�ve told them you were an orphaned only child, you give nothing, no one�s allowed to know you. Geoff: I�m sorry, I am sorry. (Geoff walks to his car) Kate: I HATE YOU! (Barry walks out of Centre, comes up to Kate) Barry: Argh, little brother�s always had abit of a problem communicating. Hey it�s okay. (puts his arms around Kate) Geoff at his car, turns to come back to talk to Kate, see�s Kate in Barry�s arms, Barry looks at Geoff, gives him a wink. Geoff angrily drives off in his car. Barry and Kate return to the Centre. ****************************************** Barry and Marty in Emma�s Garage, looking at a car, a V8 called �the beast� Marty giving Barry details about the engine etc. Geoff walks in. Geoff: Marty, I�d like some time with my brother, alone. Marty: Sure. Barry: What can I do for you Broo? Geoff: You can stay away from Kate. Barry: What? Geoff: If you wanna play games, play your stupid games with me, don�t use Kate in �em. If you want to stick me for money, stick me for money and go, just leave her out of it. Barry: You offering me money to stay away from your bird? Geoff: Just leave, just leave Coopers Crossing.
