DJ: Kate, it�s Emma, she and Sam are stuck at the Airport, now Marty�s supposed to pick �em up but he�s probably slept in or something, could you slip over there and wake him up? ****************************************** Outside Base. Geoff: There you are, X-Rays are they on their way? Kate: Not yet, I had to go and wake up Marty� Geoff: Oh come on Kate, how long does it take to make a �phone call for heavens sake. (Kate fed up, walks up path towards the Base) Chris: Oh Kate, will you get a list of builders for us in Broken Hill please? Kate: I�m a trained Sister in case you�ve forgotten, I�m not here to be everyones personal secretary, and I�m sick and tired of being taken for granted. (Kate sets off to walk home) Geoff: Look Kate, if it�s something I�ve said, if it�s something I�ve done, I mean no one takes you for granted. Kate: Good, because you�ll all have to get along without me for awhile. Geoff: What do you mean? Kate: Everyone seems to have forgotten that I�ve booked in for the rodeo at Thargomindah. ****************************************** In Kate�s house, getting changed and packing her gear for the trip. Geoff: Well you can�t just go racing off, without giving notice on some silly whim. Kate: I told the Base I was taking leave two weeks ago. Geoff: Well how are we supposed to remember, you should have reminded us. Kate: Alright, take this for a whim, I quit, I�ve had enough, I�ll write out my resignation in Thargominda. Lock up when you leave. ****************************************** In pub, Geoff, Chris, and DJ. having meal and a drink. Chris: Has she ever resigned before? Chris: No DJ: Do ya know if she does�nt come back, I bet I know where she�ll head. (Geoff and Chris look at each other) They want a Sister at Charleville Base, it�s a bigger service, better pay, better surroundings, more excitement. Chris and Geoff together: Shut up DJ.! ****************************************** At Base, DJ. answering emergency call on his radio. DJ: This is Victor, Charlie, Charlie, receiving, please identify yourself? Kate: Who�s that? Geoff: Sounds like Kate. DJ: This is the RFDS Base, identify yourself, please. Kate: Oh er, I�m calling from er, oh, er, I, must�ve umm, who�s that? Can you help me? Geoff: It is Kate. DJ: Kate it�s DJ. Where are you, what�s happened? (no reply) DJ: Kate, Kate, it�s DJ. I repeat, Where are you? Kate: Who are you? ****************************************** Geoff: Look try and remember, did you have a car accident? Kate: I don�t think so. Geoff: How badly are you hurt, where are you hurt? Kate: My head, a headache. Geoff: Good, anywhere else? Kate: Urgh, my neck, I can�t move it, it hurts too much. Geoff: Well don�t try and move it, anywhere else? Kate: Is that you Geoff, I�m tired� Geoff: Don�t go to sleep on me Kate, look just keep talking, keep talking. DJ: Her radio must be on batteries, there�s not much power left, she�s got to conserve her transmission. ****************************************** Chris: Look we can�t do anything �till we get through to her. Geoff: (crying) Well we can�t just sit here. (Chris puts her arm around Geoff and takes him into her office) Chris: We�ve got people looking out for her car, for her horse float. (pours herself a drink) Geoff: (seeing Chris with a drink in her hand) If that�s for me, you can forget it. Chris: Well it was going to be for me, but I think you need it more. Geoff: Don�t treat me like a patient Chris. Chris: Geoff, I love her too, you know. (they look at each other, Chris returns to the radio room, leaving Geoff in her office) ****************************************** Geoff: I�ve got an idea, do ya mind DJ? (DJ moves aside to let Geoff use the radio) Kate if you can hear me, you gotta try and remember. Toby, you said you took Toby with you. Kate: Geoff. Geoff: Try and remember Kate. What happened to Toby, did you fall off him? Kate: Geoff, Where are you? Geoff: What happened to Toby Kate? Kate: Urgh, I think I fell off. Geoff: Good. So you were riding. Where abouts? Can you remember where? Kate: The bush. Geoff: Why Kate? Why did you go riding in the bush? You were going to a rodeo in Thargomindah. Why did you stop to go riding? Kate: The car. Geoff: What about the car? Kate: The radiator boiled, water, I had to get water. Geoff: Good Girl. We�ll have you back in no time, alright. Sam: Dead Man�s Creek, it�s the only watering hole out that way, and there�s only one hut. ****************************************** Nomad lands, Geoff, Sam and Chris go into the hut. Kate: I tried to remember. Geoff: Shhh, don�t try and talk, you�re safe now. (Geoff puts his arm around her shoulders, supports her neck) Look I�ll just put this on, then we can have a good look at you. (puts a neck brace on Kate, Geoff hugs her, Kate rests her head on his shoulder) Sam let�s get her on a stretcher. ****************************************** In the Nomad, Kate laying on stretcher, Geoff tenderly caring for her, Chris sat in seat behind Kate. Geoff taking Kate�s pulse, about to stroke her face, but as Chris is sat near Kate, gets a cloth to wipe her forehead, looks lovingly at Kate. Seeing how tenderly Geoff is caring for Kate, Chris leaves them alone and joins Sam in the cockpit. Chris: Feel like company? Sam: Be my guest. How�s Kate? Chris: (glancing back at Geoff and Kate) She�s in good hands. Geoff strokes and kisses Kate�s forehead, fiddles with her hair, Kate opens her eyes, they smile at each other, Geoff gently kisses her lips, they smile again. ****************************************** At the Base, Kate out of Hospital. Geoff: What do ya think you�re doing? Kate: Getting that Journal. Geoff: Well you don�t have to go breaking your neck to get it. Kate: Well if I was�nt treated like a slave, I would�nt have to break my neck. (smile lovingly at each other, Geoff helps Kate stand up, broad smile on their faces) Geoff: It�s good to have you back Kate. ****************************************** |
