| It�s late in the evening and Geoff is sitting in the lounge looking at his medical books ready for Billie�s examination the next day. Kate appears in the doorway. GEOFF: Can�t sleep? KATE: Too hot. What are you doing? GEOFF: Just looking up few things for Billie. I could be right. It might not be psychological. There�s a test I can do to find out. KATE: It must be hard for her. Geoff looks uncomfortably at Kate. He gets up and moves across the room and looks out of the window. GEOFF: The weather is going to break. Do you feel the breeze? Kate walks over to him and puts her arms around his shoulders. GEOFF: What�s that for? Kate shrugs her shoulders and is looking upset. GEOFF: You know, I haven�t been entirely honest with you Kate, about Billie. We were together for awhile. KATE: I know. GEOFF: It was along time ago. How did you know? KATE: You can tell. Geoff turns to face Kate and holds her. She nervously plays with his shirt button. GEOFF: I�m sorry. It�s been hard for you as well hasn�t it? I didn�t think it was important to dredge up the past. KATE: It isn�t. GEOFF: I can�t deny that it happened. KATE: What�s important is how you feel now. She�s still special isn�t she? GEOFF: She was a part of my life. I can�t deny that. Kate looks into Geoff�s eyes and forces herself to smile. KATE: It�s alright. Geoff is also looking upset now. He looks deep into her eyes whilst stroking her hair and face. They hug, holding each other tightly. |
