Fifty- two hours straight

Cochrane brothers dump car in outback, set it on fire, leave the area.
Geoff, Emma and Sam flying over the scene later in the Nomad, think it is an accident and land.  As Sam approaches, the car explodes, badly injuring him.   Geoff has already been on duty for many hours.
Geoff:  Its alright mate, Emma get my bag.  Sam let me take a look.
Emma:  Whats wrong with him Geoff?
Emma radios Base.
Emma:  DJ. is that you, can you hear me?                                               DJ:  Victor, Charlie, Charlie is that you Emma, Emma put on the headset.
Emma:  Is that you DJ., there was a burning car, petrol tank exploded, Sam was hit, cant seem to breath.
Kate:  Ill get Chris.
DJ:  Calm down, Chris is on her way, now is Geoff alright?
Emma:  Yeah, hes with Sam.
Chris:  Its Chris here, are they in the aircraft?
Emma:  No, look Sam cant get up Chris, his chest going all funny, Geoff said youd tell me what to do, he said something about a frame.
Chris:  Oh yes, thats a jordan frame.
Emma:  Yeah and a drip.
Chris:  Are you alright?
Emma:  Theres nothing wrong with me, just tell me what to do.

In plane, Sam settled on stretcher.
Sam:  No Doc., no morphine, I have to stay alert, I out-rank you, my aircraft.
Geoff:  Well just remember, Im the Dr. (to Emma)  Look keep an eye on him, Ill call Base.
Geoff calls Base tells Chris what Sams condition is, tells Chris Sam cant be moved, only way to get Sam out is to get another Nomad pilot in to fly Sam and his aircraft out.
Geoff:  (has to give Sam morphine)  Ill have to give you a measured dose, okay Captain?

At Base:
Chris:  Kate youre medical supervisor here, medical back-up for DJ. and Geoff.  Ill fly out to Websters with the respirator.

        *****************************************

Systems beginning to fail in aircraft.
Geoff:  If Sam told you what to do, do you think you could start up an engine?
Emma:  Geoff  I. (pause)  Its only another piece of machinery.  Hes in love with his stupid.aeroplane.
Sam:  Good on ya.

Outside aircraft Emma very upset, Geoff trying to comfort her.
Emma:  Please dont say it Geoff.
Geoff:  Look hes alright Emma, but weve got a long night ahead of us.
Emma cries.
Geoff:  Hey dont you crack up on me.  Look erh for the moment Ive done what I could for him, right now, he needs you more than he needs me.  Is there any coffee in the thermos?
Emma:  Yeah, but its stone cold though.
Geoff:  Oh thats alright, just put masses of sugar in it.
Emma:  Rot your teeth, Doc.
Geoff:  Well Ill be gummy, but at least Ill be awake.  Look in about an hour he wont be able to fight the pain, he wont have the stamina to breath for himself, Ill have to try something else, Ill rely on you more than ever then.  Youll have to be my nurse, obey everything, absolutely everything I say, without question, and it wont be pleasant.
Emma:  Ill get your coffee, dont worry about me.
Geoff:  You care for Sam dont you?
Emma:  Were mates.
Geoff:  This isnt the time to play hard to get.

Sam very ill, hands over control of his aircraft to Geoff.
Sam:  Your aircraft Doc.  (Geoff nods)
Emma:  Do you mean he really does out-rank you?
Geoff:  Oh yes, in the aircraft.
Sam:  Emma love, no worries if the fuel runs out, just mix one litre of oil with 200 litres of av-gas.  Im sorry love I didnt mean to call you darling.
Emma:  Its okay mate.
Sam:  Emma I love you, I think I did the moment I first saw you.
Emma:  I love you too.
Sam:  Honest?
Emma:  Yes I do.

Systems failing again, DJ. tells Geoff he only has two hours to keep the systems going.
Geoff:  I could lose him!
Kate:  (grabs microphone from DJ.)  No you wont Geoff, youre too good. Now there are two torches in the locker, GET THEM OUT, GET THEM READY, AND SHAPE UP DR.!!
Geoff:  WELL WHAT DO YOU THINK!!  (pauses)  Thanks Kate, this will be my last transmission Ill be handing you over to Emma, you can explain to her the procedure of intubation, see you in the morning.
Later Emma radios Base.
Emma:  Intubation a success, were closing down all remaining lights and heating.
Geoff:  (shouts)  Tell us jokes DJ. anything to keep us alert.  (Geoff handpumping Sam to keep his breathing going)
Emma:  Bye.
Kate:  She did well.
DJ:  And its a big howdy to my listening audience of two.  Those diligent souls pumping breath into our favourite pilot, out there in Nomad land.  (DJ. stops talking)
Kate:  Whats the matter?
DJ:  I cant think of any jokes, all I can think of is them out there.
Kate:  Come on, youre the DJ. get your act together.
Violet:  I thought you might need this.  (Violet hands them Geoffs box of jokes and questions)
DJ:  My mystery studio guest has just handed me superdoc.s favourite game, and I bet youre all wondering who the mystery guest is, thats my first question?
Geoff and Emma:  Violet Carnegie.

Replacement pilot Debbie and Chris flying to Nomad and Sam.
Debbie:  We touch down in 10 mins.
Chris:  Theyve been pumping for one and a half hours already!
Debbie:  Its two more hours by road.
Chris:  If they cant keep it up, Sams gone.

       ******************************************

Emma takes over from Geoff pumping, Geoff very tired.
Emma:  Ive got it Geoff, why dont you sleep.
Geoff:  Cant leave my patient to a mechanic.

       ******************************************

Debbie orders flares to be lit so they can land.  Travel by car to Sam and the Nomad.
Chris takes over from Geoff.
Chris:  How are your hands?
Geoff:  Cant move em much.
Chris:  You alright, Emma?
Emma:  I didnt do half the work Geoff did, Im fine.
Debbie:  Fuelling up.
Emma:  1 litre oil, 200 av-gas.
Debbie:  Impressive, now all we have to do is wait for first light.
Geoff:  How longs that going to be?

At Base.
DJ:  2 mins. to first light.

In plane.
Debbie:  Here it comes, buckle up everybody.

At Base, DJ., Violet and Kate hug each other as Nomad takes off.

In Hospital.
Violet:  Is he alright?
Geoff:  Hell be fine Violet, hell be fine.
