Postal Fiasco Part II

by Henry Lam    December 6, 1999

I didn't think I would have to deal with another postal problem for a while, but another one just came up today. I'll keep this one short.

I wrote up some Christmas cards to send home to Vancouver and plunked them in the mailbox at the Main Gate of the campus a few days ago. Today, I got them back in the mail with some notices attached. Of course, it was all in Chinese, but fortunately, some of my students were present. I asked them to translate.

Obviously, I had not put enough postage on the envelopes. Then the students told me that I should go to the post office to weigh the envelopes next time. Plus, there was a fine for insufficient postage. Basically, I have to pay the postage twice over now. Not really an endearing thought, but that's what I get for not walking that extra block to the post office.

To make matters worse, I just finished another card today and dropped that off in the mailbox too. I imagine I will be seeing that one back in my hands in a day or two. Sigh...

I'm, of course, a little annoyed, but really, it is my fault. Now I really want to kick myself.

"Aiya, Henry. What are we going to do with you?"
