all around germany

frankfurt

we bid adieu to our dear henrietta and the swedes and flew back to germany. our destination: frankfurt am main. why did we go to frankfurt? and why did we stay there for two days? why? why? there was really nothing to do there. jen and i spent most of our time in the hotel room watching japanese variety shows.

there was a korean restaurant on the ground floor of our hotel. why are there koreans in frankfurt? oh so confuse~ we had to try the restaurant even though the idea of korean food by korean-germans is clearly bad news.

what else did we do... oh went to a gay bar. walked miles to get there too. it was mostly middle aged gay men in leather and studs. very 80's. not too happening. overall frankfurt was a dud. it ranks 1 out of 5 on my deutschspass scale.

after we took this picture, i was attacked by a big mama goose

i pretend i'm lucy lu on my way to heidelberg.

heidelberg

heidelberg was vedy nice. gets 4.5 on deutschspass scale. we spent the day sight seeing, eating, and drinking. i bought emi a little cowbell at one of the gift shops in the quaint, old part of the town near the heidelberg castle, and the shop was owned by koreans. and i thought it weird to find koreans in frankfurt but korean peoples running a gift shop in heidelberg, as if they are locals selling souvenirs of their town and heritage, is a bit twilight zone-y.

most of our germany pictures are of either me or jen. this is a rare jen-and-lin-in-one-photo photo

i was so excited to see a group of asian people. i had to be a part of them, if only for a second.

we drank radlers (half lemonade half beer) and i turned all red.

while i was getting tickets to munich, our next destination, jen drank a small bottle of jaegermeister
and a couple weissbiers, then passed out on the platform. our train was to leave in a few minutes,
so i ran down to find her and there she was, sprawled out on the concrete with empty bottles and
cigarette cartons scattered next to her. she so crazee.

munich

ah munchen munchen~ i was really excited about munich and even had a place picked out for us to stay. a quaint little hotel not far from the outdoor market and glockenspiel action. but when we got there the place was all filled up. my next choice was a youth hostel for women, run by nuns. we found the place in a seedy part of the neighborhood, sandwiched between a strip club and a turkish supermarket. it was pretty nice though. really clean beds, very cheap, and i liked that it was run by nuns. i felt like a catholic school girl gone bad in manner of britney spears in "oh baby baby" video. but instead of hiking up skirts, jen and i ran off to the bars at night.

we had heard of the glockenspiel, a really old cuckoo clock in munich's marienplatz, that chimes every hour and all these figures come out of the clock and move around. jen and i had seen a picture of marienplatz in our h.s. german textbook and finally it was time for the real thing. we went at noon and waited for a while with a group of other tourists. but then it happened and it was kinda lame. i don't know what i was expecting to see. maybe the stone gargoyles to start moving or figurines in liederhosen to jump out of the buttresses. munich scores a 3 on the deutschspass.

bamberg

bamberg is probably the quaintest town i have ever seen in my life. we made it a day trip and just walked around. i'd give bamberg a 2 but the quaintness earns one whole point. so 3 for bamberg, a town without much spass but loads of deutsch quality quaint.

people actually live in those houses. the little figure in the distance is jen
