08.02.02 it's already august?
what the heck? i haven't even gone to the beach this summer. the short white shorts i bought for a beach-outing are now being worn to sleep. and i'm still working at N. and i still haven't looked for jobs. and i still haven't joined a gym. and no progress on the portfolio. what have you been doing lin? i've been scheming and rubbing my hands together.

i'm going to turkey. and i'm changing my name to mariel.

announcements:

jennis is going to start her first day of med school tomorrow. go jennis! you're bound to stand out in the sea of brown, indo faces.

jim and shirl oslislo are heading up to the hamptons tomorrow for a sandcastle building contest. go team! even if they don't win, and even if jim's dead pan john malkovich voice expresses frustration and disappointment, deep down they both know that it's not al about winning titles and prizes. it's about other things.

i wonder how one makes vodka. i'm going to look it up.

jen has taken to transcribing drunken slurs onto my guestbook. v.interesting. it's alright jenny, all are aware of your lushy ways.

had dinner at lime today, a new mexican restaurant in westfield. i will never eat there again. they put mayo on chicken quesadillas. conflict in my mouth. mayo and mex will never cross paths again.

i think horseradish has a sobering effect on me. every time i eat pretzels with dijon mustard while i am buzzed on a mojito, i lose the buzz. this has happened twice. i believe i've stumbled upon an antidote. if ever i have too much to drink, look in my handbag for a small tube of wasabi.

08.07.02vicious fish make lin go nut
i think there's a fish bone stuck in my esophagus. it's really irritating. guess i can drink more water. eat a spoonful of rice? a piece of bread? okay, i try. but if it doesn't go down, i go nut.

08.14.02 the race for bovinity
i've been eating beef for the past nine days. it began two sundays ago at the robert wood johnson picnic for first years. monday dinner was steak. tuesday-thursday i can't remember what i had but it included beef. friday went to eat galbi after jenny's white coat ceremony. saturday ate sulungtang at gamiok, which included beef and beef broth. sunday mom made a beef-soup dish. ate leftovers of it on monday. and today i ate a burger. how do you feel about that?

newark is north of here jen and i scampered up to her roof yesterday at midnight to view the perseids meteor shower. we were devastated to find that the sky was completely overcast. did not see a single streak of light. yesterday was supposed to be the shower's peak. i checked the direction for north with jen's compass about fifty times to make sure that we were not missing the meteor shower by looking the wrong way. we did spot several planes decending towards newark in about 15min intervals. i explained to jen that those planes were going to newark because newark is north of where we were, and the compass in my hand was definitely pointing to the N. N for newark. W for westfield.

shake your bon-bon last saturday was my final social outing with the robert wood first years. i can do it no mores. jennis and i headed downtown to veruka, a club/lounge place that used to be popular a few years back, but is now a hot spot for tourists and apparently, n.j. med school students. we went around midnight and the place was already packed because it is smaller than jen oslislo's house. after jennis' second and my third drink, we realized that we were already out of cash and either had to go find a mac, or mac on a guy. we voted for plan #2. that's what most girls do at clubs anyway, right? it's just no fun to go to a club and buy all your own drinks.

i was able to get a couple of drinks but this came with a price. the first guy was really nice, a rwj first year, but *balding*. but balding. but nice. so i seductively ate an olive at the bar while waiting for our drinks and he said, "are you a martini girl?"
"mmhmm", i replied. we danced a little but not close dancing- just facing each other dancing because, like i said, i had already eaten the olive seductively.

the other guy, i had to dance with him *before* the drink, and this was just awful because not only was he bad, but he kept turning in place while dancing. eventually i asked, "so what's up with the turning?"
"uh, i don't know... i just turn when i dance."
"well maybe you should start turning the other way because i'm getting dizzy."

the dancing ended soon after, and we made it to the bar. i excused myself to the ladies room while he ordered. when back at the bar, i realized that i couldn't recall what he looked like. medium height. dark hair. slowly i walked along the bar, keeping my eyes open for a guy with dark hair. then i'd find one and hesitantly smile and say, "hey.." after a few blank stares and a puzzled, "hey...?" i found my pirouette dancer.

later on, they played some songs with latin dance beats so i taught him the basic salsa step. but once he started the salsa, he never wanted it to end. finally when he had left for the bathroom, jennis and i ran away. we went to kamiok and ate sulungtang. random guys can buy us drinks. but wouldn't it be so funny to ask a random white guy to buy you a bowl of sulungtang? maybe if you smile alot and eat kimchi seductively.

haha. that would be so wierd.

08.21.02swinging single
i woke up quarter past eleven, when i was supposed to be at work by eleven. instead of bolting out of bed and freaking out, i called in and took the day off. my boss said, "you want the day off? okay, it's not that busy anyway. have a nice day off!" haha. it is like a joke. but this is my life so you can't be laughing.

for breakfast i ate abnormal quantities of hummus and flat bread which made me feel pretty darn sick. watched some tv. tried to look for jobs but soon got sidetracked into signing up all of my friends to become members of the krispy kreme ny club. on your birthay you get a coupon for free krispy kreme doughnuts. i love doughnuts so much. i just love them.

picked up sare from work and went to eat dinner in hoboken. the restaurant scene in hoboken is similar to the one in berlin. crowded with lots of white people, quaint, young, lively, with bad to very mediocre food. stopped by in jersey city to see jane who brought me a lovely candle from hawaii.

so apparently sare is taking this dating thing really seriously. it's like relationship on miracle gro. a curiously large melon.

08.24.02happy birthday
jane! jane jane, jane jane jane, jane. jane jane? jane. jane jane jane jane jane jane jane. jane jane jane, jane! that would be the language of jane, if jane were to enter into her own head. lets get together and have cake next week!

also, joe, happy birthday. "you know you're old when you start to look like joe ahn." muhaha. i know it was actually yesterday but i forgot. i don't feel bad though, because you never remember mine. hope you had a fun night out!

if you haven't noticed, i can no longer be reached on my cell. my contract is over and i don't plan on getting a new one anytime soon. you can email me or call the jun residence. better yet, why not leave me messages on my guestbook?

08.31.02trading spaces
remember how my legal name was korean and everyone just called me linda? well now my legal name is linda, but you can call me hildi. like hildi, the designer from trading spaces who i try to emulate by wearing pointy shoes and smiling maliciously.

how could it be? summer is gone. and i have nothing to show for it. no tan lines, no minibreaks, no sarah jessica parker arms. i did however alter two t-shirts and made a light fixture out of a broken umbrella and christmas lights. so those can go under "artistic/creative growth", yeh.
