- Initiated a project to consolidate multi-million dollar worth of sub-assemblies into a single contract, so as to obtain preferential pricing and service from contract manufacturers (CM).
- Aggressively negotiated down subcontractor price by more than half in 9 months, saving millions for that year.
Intimate knowledge of the cost structure was used, together with engineering knowledge of assembly process and extensive market survey, to work on win-win projects to lower cost structure. A long-term contract was eventually signed to provide further annual aggressive price reduction (another few million each year) and supplier managed inventory program (a few more million dollar worth of inventory removed).
- Completed an e-business project for Vendor-Managed-Inventory (VMI).
WebDI/EDI technology was deployed to automatically transact inventory movement between internal warehouse and customer-site warehouse in Mexico and US.
- Implemented customer support for regional CM to support customer's Turnkey program.
Customer base increased from 4 customer divisions to additional 12 CMs as a result. Coverage includes CMs in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, and China. Diligently worked with CMs in managing the ASIC fallout rate through failure analysis to determine root causes, follow-up action recommendation, ESD audit/consultation, and visits/information sharing to educate CMs in IC usage.
- Participated in SAP programs at division and group levels.
As a member of the program core team, led a Singapore cross-functional group. Lobbied successfully for the Singapore operation to be included in the phase 1. Coordinated among the Singapore operation, the program core team and the Singapore site functions. Represented the Singapore operation in the subsequent group-level SAP program.
- Implemented a key IT project for direct ship to customer.
Through this project and the associated business process re-engineering, the transition time was drastically cut from days to hours, shipping document was automatically printed error-free, net profit increased due to tax positioning, warehouses were consolidate to a single location. Most importantly, on time delivery jumped from 65% to 99%.
- Implemented CIM and shop floor control technologies to the whole manufacturing operations. Key accomplishment: led the critical Data Collection System development. The CIM platform strategy was first established to base the new system on. WIP/Yield/Output tracking was fully automated as a result, making the critical production information real-time for better decision making.
- Implemented automation to improve yield, throughput and uptime of overall assembly product line
, including integration of trim/form and solder-dip processes, tray-to-tube mechanization and PQFP 120L startup.
