Telling the world who Jesus truly is
My Search For The Messiah Of God
John 1:1-3 & 14 "IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD, AND THE WORD WAS WITH GOD, AND THE WORD WAS GOD, AND THE SAME WAS IN THE BEGINNING WITH GOD." (vs 14a)"AND THE WORD BECAME FLESH AND DWELLED AMONG US"
The study about who Jesus truly is has become a quest for me. The trinity of the God head is sure, even though the word trinity is not in the bible. While searching the scriptures, for further evidence of who Jesus truly is, they have become more alive to me as I find greater understanding about Jesus being the word of God in the flesh.
We have heard it said many times that "Jesus is God in the flesh", however, that is not what the scriptures say; it says, "He is the Word of God made flesh" (John 1:14). Matthew 1:23 makes the statement about what Mary's child will be called-- "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us." Does this give us the Idea that Jesus was God in the flesh? Or, does it tell us that Jesus is the Word of God and lives inside us? I believe it does.
In the conversation between the disciples and Jesus (John 14:8); Phillip asked Jesus to show them "The Father" and He said these words to him---"Have I been so long time with you, and yet you have not know me,Phillip? he that has seen me has seen the Father; so why do you say, 'Show us the Father?' Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me? the 'Words' that I speak to you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwells in me, He does the works. Believe me, that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me; or at least believe me for the very works sake."
When we fully understand that Jesus is the "Word of God" we can see in the above scriptures that Jesus was not claiming to be The Father; but saying that the Father lives in Him and He lives in the Father. Just as we live in Him, His Word is to live in us. If the "Word of God" lives in us, then Emanuel, God is with us. If the Word lives in us then Yeshua/Jesus lives in us.
As the Word of God made flesh, Jesus never claimed to be God the Father. But He does claim to be His Son. He also claims that He and the Father is one (John 10:30). This oneness that Jesus has with the Father is unique because--- when you have God's Word, you have God's Son; and when you have God's son, you have God's word, and you have God.
Let me say it like this....God gave His Word a body (Hebrews 10:5) and gave Him (His Word) a name above every name; and God's own Word became His only Begotten Son. This is something no one ever taught me about Jesus being the Word of God made flesh! There are so many scriptures in the New Testament where Jesus plainly states that He is in the Father as the Word is in the Father; and that He comes only to do the will of the Father, and that the works that He does is not Him that does them, but the Father through Him-----and that leads me to know that Jesus never claimed to be God the Father---He claimed only to be His Word made flesh, and that flesh became God's only begotten son.
In Philippians 2: 6 (King James version)we are told that Jesus says that He thinks it is okay to be equal with God. King James says Jesus thought it not robbery to be equal with God. However, if this is true then why did Jesus make statements like--"My Father is greater than I" (John 14:28). Jesus continues in Philippians by saying that He made no reputation for Himself, but took on the form of a servant, and was fashioned as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death. He became human in order to show us that it is possible for a human to be in right standing with God the Father. He lived according to the instructions that He gave to Moses for all God's people to live by. He did not live them for us--He lived them to show us how we could live God's ways.
These scriptures played on my mind so I went to the original Greek to find what was originally written by Paul to the Philippians, and what I read astounded me. Just prior to this statement Paul was talking to them about being in union with Christ, and by being in one heart and mind. He asked them not to do things out of rivalry or vanity, but do things humbly, regarding each other as better than themselves, and to look out for each other's interest and not just their own. This is what Paul says Jesus does in verse 5 & 6. From the original Greek it says---"Let your attitude toward one another be governed by your being in union with Yeshua The Messiah: Though He was in the form of God, (God's word) He did not regard equality with God something to be possessed by force. On the contrary, He emptied Himself, in that He took the form of a slave by becoming like humans are."
Jesus was the word of God made flesh, and the word of God humbled Himself before God the Father, and became obedient to the death on the stake. Therefore, God the Father raised Jesus, God's word on earth, from the dead and gave Him a name above every name, and in honor of His name every knee shall bow--in heaven, on earth and under the earth--and every tongue will acknowledge that Yeshua The Messiah is Lord--to the glory of the Father (Phil 2:9,10,11).
So--does the fact that Jesus is the "Word of God made flesh" make Him God the Father?--No, not the Father, though the Father was in Him! Does it make Him in every way like God? Yes it does! Does it make Him Greater than God? No but He has all the authority of God the Father! Does it make Him as powerful as God? Yes it does because God gave it to Him to use on certain occasions. Yet He said that God was greater than Himself (John 14:28). So all this does make Him every bit as God is; and through His name is the only way we can get back into relationship with God the Father.
I had left the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob a long time ago just like the 10 tribes of Israel left him to serve and worship their own form of God. But now, since I have come to know my Jewish Messiah and realize that it was through Him (God's Word) that I was given salvation and redemption; and through His shed blood I have forgivness of my sin; I have been brought back into fellowship with the Father through the name of the only begotten Son of God/The Word of God; and His name is Y'shua/Jesus.
Jesus called the Father "my God" both before and after his resurrection (Matt. 27:46; John 20:17; Rev. 3:12). Jesus as the "son of man" acknowledged God as His Father. Jesus did not think of himself as God, but instead had a God just as we do. For example, he told Mary Magdalene to go to the brothers and tell them, "I ascend to my Father and your Father, and my God and your God" (John 20:17). Thus Jesus/Yeshua's God is the same God as our God; and He is the same God of the Hebrews; for He is the same yesterday, today and forever--the Almighty God. Now---the Word of God sits at the right hand of the Majesty on High making intercession for me! I will strive to be obedient to God's Holy Word, and because of my love for Him, I will honor, and obey all His law and commandments. Not because they will make me more holy or saved, but because it was God's Word that died for me. He is the love of my life.
To finish my story: The Lord restored my husband and my family in the year 2000 and we are excited about what God is doing in our lives. Each day the Lord shows us something new and alive from His Word. His Holy Word has become a Light unto my Path and a Lamb unto my feet; and I hid Him in my heart that I might not sin against Him.If you have not come to know this Jewish Messiah we call Jesus; He is only a prayer away. Call on Him and He will Hear and Answer you; and show you great and mighty things that you do not know (Jeremiah 33:3).
Shalom
