We Are Lifeless Marionettes
Back to poems
We Are Lifeless Marionettes
On strings connected
To God's fingers,
So he can control how high
We soar
Or how far
We fall.

He lets us dangle helplessly,
In and out of the waves,
Sometimes holding us under
Until we cannot take the pain anymore.

Then he watches us squirm
Like a worm on a hook,
Knowing what fate lies before us;
Hauntingly obvious.
We will suffer.
We will die.

Time doesn't heal all wounds
It only sedates us long enough for forget the pain,
So when the next obstacle comes along
We're too busy worrying
That we forget everything else

God doesn't help mankind
He is like our imaginary friend
That comes out when our
Imagination gets the best of us,
Or when were too afraid
To go it alone.

We are lifeless marionettes
Clinging to a thread
That even under the weight of our despair
Will not break
Until we do.
