| I saw a child today Hidden amongst the war and carnage She was looking for her mother and crying Behind her, the city boomed and cackled As the inferno consumed her home She was barely three that day But she saw the world with ancient eyes Eyes that had seen too much for their time Fear encompassed her She was alone and evil was surrounding her We've called it liberation We've called it ethnic cleansing We've even called it "freedom" But one thing that never changes Is the pain we're causing And the lives we're taking How I wanted to reach out to her Pick her up and hold her while she cried I wanted to give her comfort Because I know what hopelessness is And I know how fear can destroy the soul But most of all I wanted to rescue her... I wanted to rescue her from the evils of the world That no one ever saved me from |
