| Happiness Used to Be | ||||||
| Happiness used to consist of Walking in the flower beds And swinging in the backyard Until the sun was way down And the stars were out Happiness used to encompass Moments of perfect solitude Lying on grassy knolls Watching the fireworks On the fourth of July Happiness used to include Long walks in the forest Behind my house When the brook ran full (They tore the trees out long ago) Happiness used to involve Me and my Dad Talking on the front porch About everything we could think of And not getting bored for a second Happiness used to be part of me The part that was always apparent In my smile But happiness has tarnished And left only this sorrowful facade Happiness used to be great... The thing that kept me going Through the days But as hard as I think I can't remember anything That makes me happy anymore Happiness used to be... |
