| Coyote Summer | ||||||
| I nestle myself into the cliff Breathing, I watch the orange sky slowly turn to blue The sun is flooding the land It's already hot A breeze tosses my hair I push it behiind my ear Desert animals stir I shield my eyes from the ravage sun and turn around Only to find a squirrel Searching through my bag He sees me and stops I put my hand out slowly He hesitates, looks back Then comes towards me cautiously I have an acorn for him He grabs it quickly, hurries away a little And looks back again, as if to say thinks Then he scampers off I smile I don't feel so alone now Life is a little more liveable Happiness a little more attainable The sun is up now Intensifying the heat I gather my hair messily A breeze cools my neck I hug my knees Sitting, waiting for the coyote |
