Introduce multiplication by showing the BrainPOP video.

Show the class the standard table of multiplication.

Introduce the “Hopping the Number Line

Students count aloud hopping by 2’s, 3’s, 4’s and 5’s. Allow students to take turns using the pointer for the number line. Number line assessment activity.

Tuesday

Review Number line from day before using the VIRTUAL MANIPULATIVE.

Ask review questions “what number you land on if you hop by __?”

Read the book What Comes in 2’s, 3’s, and 4’s?

Have the each student fill out the “Equal Sets” worksheet.

Wednesday

Read One Hundred Hungry Ants

Introduce terms: product, factor, array models (PowerPoint of terms)

Class activity: constructing map of unifix cubes, toothpicks, index cards, and chart paper

Evaluation questions about activity

Thursday

Introduce balance beam and hanging weights multiplication application

Balance Beam activity online activity

For assessment, play the Product Game calling up volunteers from the class. (whole class involvement)

Ask the class to answer the evaluation questions aloud.

Friday

Take VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP

Review questions from the past four lessons.

Have a number line taped to the floor for the children to physically express the multiplication/hopping process.
