| My favorite band, I bought B*Witched's first album the day of release and haven't regretted it since! With a flow of pure Irish pop and a variety of styles, B*Witched are truly b*witching and totally worth buying... LET'S GO (THE B*WITCHED JIG) A basically pointless song, Let's Go features one line (which is spoken / yelled by Edele) and scratchy Irish beats. Although this song is entertaining when you see the girls live, the CD experience isn't always a good one. B- C'EST LA VIE The debut single from B*Witched introduced us to the poppy side of Irish girls. Undoubtably catchy and with an easy (and I mean easy) dance, C'est La Vie gets people moving and singing along everywhere. A- REV IT UP Although this has never been one of my favourites on this CD, it's not bad. Basically about chilling around the beach and having a blast, it's another song that shows us how pop B*Witched can really be. B+ TO YOU I BELONG The first ballad on this CD, B*Witched prove they aren't talentless and sing some great harmonies. On the first chorus, Lindsay Armaou (19) steps out of Edele Lynch's (20) shadow to sing her line brilliantly. This song is actually about their parents and scored the girls their 3rd #1 single. A- ROLLERCOASTER Back to B*Witched's pop side, the girls sing about how their lives are like a rollercoaster. This song has some odd lyrics, but that's of no notice since the song basically focusses on musical quality. You're really missing out if you've never seen this song live. Once again we have some singing from the other ladies (Armaou, Keavy Lynch and Sinad O'Carrol). A- BLAME IT ON THE WEATHERMAN When the four ladies released this song as their fourth single, most people were surprised that it was them. The song wasn't written by B*Witched, but they sing it beautifully and have an entire different look for the video. With acoustics and a simple chorus, Blame It On The Weatherman is probably one of the best songs on the album. A WE FOUR GIRLS Although some people think this song is a great one, I have to disagree. It's quite boring actually, with verses whispered and the backup girls sing the same "We four girls are here to stay" over and over. The song is great performed live when the verses are sung by all four of the girls and we get to hear all of their great voices. B CASTLES IN THE AIR This is my favourite song on this CD. It's in a more Spice Girl like arrangement with every girl singing their own part (K. Lynch is on the first verse, Armaou is on the bridge, E. Lynch is on the chorus, and O'Carrol is on the second verse). But this song is far better than anything the Spice Girls could have done. And even though this sounds like it's about being in love, it's written about the girls hitting #1 with their first single. A FREAK OUT The title may give you some bad vibes (baby=), but Freak Out is pretty entertaining. No, it's not good, but it's not bad. The attempt by the writers of this song to make B*Witched sex symbols back fired drastically and set me off in a fit of hysteria. Now this is a song the Spice Girls would have sing. It's ironic because it talks about platform shoes and the like when B*Witched are strictly denim and tennis shoes. Funny funny, and very Venus like. B+ LIKE THE ROSE Now after "Freak Out" we need a seriously good song and of course the ladeez have pulled it off. Like The Rose is a beautiful ballad with great lyrics. The girls have stepped back into the writing on this song and make it truly great with brilliant harmonies and lyrics. But, please, the background sounds like Jurrasic Park noises... A- NEVER GIVING UP We're basically rotating on the writing on these songs. B*Witched didn't help write this song, but it's not bad. It's actually very catchy and describes a lot of people's situations. Although the girls sound great and it's got a lot of musical quality, the amount of times that you can actually say "chew" instead of "you" is ridiculous. "Tell me about chor day / What chew been thinking? / Cuz I've been waiting outside jor place." But, hey, nothing's perfect... A- OH MR. POSTMAN To close this album, we sing about another employee (far more dangerous than the Weatherman, I'm sure...). The message to this song isn't clear, although the girls say it's about keeping in touch, the lyrics don't give much of a hint that that's true. And the song is strictly E. Lynch. The other girls sound like they're backed by a men's choir either eaten by a tape player or put through a very annoying vocalizer. It's ot all bad though, considering E. Lynch sings very well. A- Overall... This CD is just great. It turned me head over heels for these lassies and it even gave me my screen name - LindsayBW! A |
