| DEMIGODS AND APOCALYPSES... IN D MINOR Chapter 9: Teklar-zxen
Keavy cheered as she did aerial acrobatics, and shot up craft after craft. Her numbers were ranking high.
"I'm kicking arse, ba-bay!", she said.
The others laughed along with her.
Suddenly, a craft came from behind and blasted her left wing. She spiraled downward.
"Keavy!!", Edele cried.
"Drax, Keavy's been hit! What do we do?". Sinead said.
"Crap. Find her now!"
"Who is that?", Lindsay said, pointing down at the city.
"That...is Teklar-zxen in the flesh.", Drax said.
He could see everything from a screen at the base.
The man they were referring to stood below. He had long, black hair. His face looked handsome, but sinister. He wore a fancy red cloak with gold trim, and some kind of suit under it.
"I'm going after him.", Edele said.
"May not be a good idea."
"I'm getting tired of you constantly contradicting me, like. I'm going in!"
Edele lowered her craft, and starting firing.
The blasts didn't penetrate. They only seemed to bounce off him.
Edele hit the yellow button.
There was a huge blast of color.
But he still stood.
"What the...?", Edele said.
"Nothing is hitting him!", Sinead said.
"Tell your stubborn friend to listen to me...Edele, it's his suit. He's put up an impenetrable force field. Now get out of the way fast!", Drax said.
The blast just barely missed her.
"Yike! What was that??"
"Zxen's force field can reflect your blasts. Don't fire at him!"
"If we can't get pass his field, how will we stop him?", Sinead said.
"You'd have to bring his field down."
"How?"
"I'm afraid I don't know."
"Well, what good will that do us!?", Edele said.
Lindsay put a hand on Edele's shoulder.
"I've got an idea. Let me out of the jet."
"Say what?"
"Please don't argue with me, Eddie. Just do it."
Edele lowered and let Lindsay out.
"What is she doing??", Drax exclaimed.
"Hey! Come and get me, you big,...stupid...alien!", Lindsay yelled.
Teklar-zxen grabbed. He held her by the throat, in the crook of his arm.
"I will slaughter you, foolish human.", he said in her ear.
His force field was down.
"Who's foolish?", Lindsay said, "Edele, NOW!!"
"What!?"
He threw Lindsay aside. The blast knocked him back. He got off the ground and gnashed his teeth at them. They were sharp, like an animal's.
He sent an energy ball hurling towards them. More and more Horrids came, firing.
"There's too many! We're outnumbered!", Sinead said.
"Bring everybody back to the base...now!!", Drax said.
Edele came running into the base frantically. She was carrying a limp Keavy in her arms. Sinead followed, helping Lindsay along.
"Oh my God! Oh my God! You have to help her!", Edele panicked, "She's not breathing!"
She placed her fallen twin on the table. Keavy still wore the suit, which meant she was still alive. But the usually level-headed Edele was too frantic to remember that.
Drax placed his fingers under her jaw to feel her pulse.
"She's alive, but barely hanging on."
The suit began to return under her skin.
Edele looked over her with a panic-stricken look in her eyes. Drax listened to her heart.
"She needs medical attent-. Oh no.", his voice went soft.
"Drax, what's wrong!? Tell me what's wrong!!"
They all watched as the suit began to leave her skin.
The alien rested on her shoulder, danced. Then remained still.
"I thought you said nothing could break the suit!", Lindsay said.
"He must have found a missile strong enough! This is uncanny!"
There was an awkward silence as the truth of the moment began to sink in. Lindsay saw Sinead's face fall at the same time or heart did. Drax took out a small, plastic tube and put the blob inside of it.
Edele was a different story.
She began to back away, pulling at her hair, trying not to scream. Her face was red. Her eyes started to tear up.
"Keavy! NO! NO! NO! NO!"
She lunged at Drax, Sinead caught her and tried to hold her back. Edele kicked and screamed and clawed at the air.
"It's nobody's fault, Eddie. You have to calm down!"
"Don't tell me to calm down!! You have no right to tell me to calm down!!", she looked directly at Drax, "This is your fault, you know...If you hadn't...if you had just left us alone...this wouldn't have happened!"
"You were chosen."
Edele had all she could take. She broke from Sinead's grip and jumped on him. She went wild, punching and clawing at him. He struggled, helpless under her blind wrath.
Lindsay and Sinead pulled her off of him.
"I'll kill you!!"
"Edele, this doesn't sound like you!", Sinead said, "You're not behaving rationally."
"Oh, shut up! Just shut up! Maybe if you weren't literally in outer-space this wouldn't have happened."
Now it was Sinead's turn to be a little pissed.
"Are you blaming me now? Do you know how ridiculous that sounds?"
"You were right behind her. If you'd been paying attention-."
"Oh, so now it's all my fault because I'm just an absent-minded goof, is that right, Edele?", Sinead said.
"Bite me."
"Screw you, Edele!"
"You're not my-!"
"Will you two knock it off!?", Lindsay suddenly interrupted them.
They both turned and looked at her.
"Keavy is dead, and you're not helping by acting like you haven't got any common sense. We have to think this through!", she said to Edele.
Edele tightened her lip. The anger in her eyes went back to infinite sadness. Her eyes started to well up again. Sinead held onto her as she slumped to the ground.
"It's nobody's fault, Eddie.", Sinead repeated.
Edele's tears went back into her eyes. She looked at Sinead, this time with a cold, calculated look in her eyes. A look for revenge.
"Yes, it is. I'm going to make that jerk pay."
Edele stood and walked towards the base exit.
"Where are you going?"
"I'll give you three guesses. But by the time you get it right, Zxen will already be dead."
"Eddie, think about this..."
"Join me or not. But stay out of my way, Socky."
Edele shot up the tube.
"Oh, hell. Eddie, wait!"
At a secret lair somewhere, Teklar-zxen was attending to his own wounds. That laser blast had nearly torn off his shooulder.
Who were they?
One of the Horrids came into his lair.
"What is it?"
The beast spoke in an inaudible gibberish. Teklar-zxen nodded as if he understood.
"Good boy. Go."
The Horrid left.
A beautiful woman came from one of the corners and massaged his shoulders.
"Ah, thank you...Now get away from me."
The woman obeyed.
Teklar-zxen waved his hand over thin air, and the wall in front of him began to raise.
He entered the hidden room.
There were glass cages everywhere. Peopl were chained up inside of them. Only one was conscious. A young man with short blond hair and a face that made him look younger than his actual age. His hands were chained together above his head. He looked as if he had been beaten. Teklar-zxen didn't know why, but he took a particular curiosity to this man. There was something about him.
He held his face in his hand.
"Such a beautiful boy, you are. Too bad, really. Just too bad."
The man began to mutter something.
"What's that?"
He put his ear to the man's mouth. He repeated himself. Zxen hit him in the face. And laughed.
"You're just a bug to me. I can squash you. At least until I find the Heart of Xion. You'd be amazed what I could do with that thing. But that witch, Sekra hid it from me. I know it's in this Universe somewhere."
He held the man's face again, and looked right at him.
"Of course, you and this terrible excuse for a planet won't be around to see it." Previous Chapter | Next Chapter |
