"When we wake up, like, will any of this change?"
"No. Your powers will still be real."
"And I still won't have any.". Lindsay complained.
Edele put a hand on her shoulder.
"You're still a part of this team, Lindsay."
Drax was about to speak, to correct her, but Edele shot him a look that told him to keep quiet.
"Well, I hope we get back soon.", Sinead said, "I still have to pee."
Lindsay re-awoke in her hotel bed. Sinead was in the bathroom. She threw the covers off and left the room. She knocked on Keavy and Edele's door.
"Do you believe anything he said?"
"The entire planet. That means our families, as well.", Edele said.
"I want my Mammy.", Keavy said.
"I can't believe Sinead is a goddess!", Lindsay said.
"Well, she always acts as if she's in the heavens, like."
The alarm had sounded quicker than they expected. Everything had been returned to normal, as if nothing had changed. They went about their regular work schedule. But it was difficult to fully concentrate. Especially for Sinead. Then again, it was hard for Sinead to fully concentrate on most things.
The girls took a break from reheasing.
Keavy picked up her water bottle.
"Try not to sing in that, Keaves."
"Oh. Ha. Ha. Very funny."
She took a sip.
"It's hard to work, knowing what we know. That the world is going to end.", Edele said.
"And you have to stop it.", Lindsay said.
"We. All of us, Lindsay. You're included in this."
"I don't know what good I'd be. I can't fly or change shape or anything."
"Hey. Do you think I'm happy to have an alien living under my skin? I'm not.", Keavy said.
"You must be here with us for a reason. Drax never sent you to that 'clone dimension'.", Sinead said.
"Hey, Sinead. You're right!", Edele said, suddenly realizing this.
"I am? I mean, right. I am.", Sinead said.
"Come to think of it, you were with us. If it only involved the three of us, then you shouldn't have been,...right?", Keavy said.
"What does that mean?", Lindsay said.
"I don't know. But I'm going to ask him next time we see him.", Edele said.
"Well, at least everyone was returned.", Keavy said.
She went to her bag, took out her cell phone, and dialed.
"What are you doing?", Edele said.
"Calling Mam and Dad."
No matter how much they tried to reassure her, a part of her still felt left out. She wandered alone, sullen.
She wasn't paying attention to where she was going and suddenly stubbed her toe on a small, flat, metal object. She kicked it out of annoyance.
Suddenly, something hit her on the back of her head.
"Ow!"
"Well, that's what you get for kicking me!", a girl's voice said.
"Who said that?"
"I did."
The metal object was now floating in the air. It was crescent-shaped with blue accents. It had two small red lights at it's front that looked like eyes, and a tiny blue screen that blinked when it 'talked'.
"A talking hover-board?", Lindsay said.
"I am an Advanced Intelligence Assistant Navigator. Not a 'talking hover-board'! And if you call me that again, I'll hit you harder!"
The object was right in her face.
"Okay, sorry. Don't get so senstive. You're very articulate for a machine."
"Thank you. I have a piece of a human cerebellum implanted in my main-frame.", it said.
"Wow. That's pretty interesting, Advanced...um..."
"Call me AIAN*. Hey. Wait a second. I know you! You're the one that directly knows The Three."
"A lot of people directly know them. They have friends and family. And pre-paid calling minutes so they can keep in touch wherever they go."
"Oh, Drax never told you, did he?"
"Told me what? And how do you know Drax?"
"Uh,...it's not my place to say. But I can help out if you ever need me. I'm more than just a 'talking hover-board'."
"Heh. Thanks. That's good to know. By the way, I'm Lindsay." Previous Chapter | Next Chapter |
