Note: James - has two baptismal dates (1) 1834, (2) 8 May 1969
Family oral history indicates James died while living 11 miles south and east of Nauvoo as a result of mob beatings and exposure to the weather. He is supposedly buried in one of the cemeteries in Nauvoo, but we don't know exactly where.
Elizabeth and her children later went west in the Isaac Stewart wagon company. They were sent to Alpine after arriving in Salt Lake. They spent one winter there, living in caves in the hills. They eventually settled in the Bear Lake area, where Brigham Young sent them to help with the establishing of the community there.
James and Elizabeth lived near Kirtland, moving with the Saints to Far West, and were driven from there to Quincy, Illinois, before settling outside of Nauvoo. When the mob drove them out of Far West they were allowed an old saddle, a bag of dry feed corn, a broken down horse, and the clothes they had on their backs. James carved wooden soles for the children's shoes and used the saddle to make the uppers.
