Minden's Donald and Christopher Thompson have been a fun duo to keep track of in the world of Karate, but fun was not the goal at the Isshinryu Hall of Fame Awards Banquet and Tournament.
It was a time to be honored for hard work and a great attitude toward life.
The two young martial arts students were named co-winners of the "Young Male Karate Students" under age 12.
The event is held annually in Gatlinburg, TN to honor outstanding karate students and masters alike.
It is the largest gathering of Isshinryu practioners worldwide.
Donald and Christopher have been training at Clyde Stanley's Karate and Self Defense for four 1/2 years.
They were the first martial arts students to ever be named "KTBS Student Athletes of the Week".
They are also the youngest students to ever be promoted to the Junior Brown Belt by Stanley.
Nominations were received from all across the United States and several other countries.
During the fifth grade Christopher was honored as Harper's student of the year. He also was chosen as Webster Parish Student of the Year. He went to regionals but did not win. He did a great job.
Christopher won two awards this month from the United States Achievement Academy. The first one was the USAA National English Merit Award and the second one was The All-American Scholarship Award. Christopher is a member of a select group of students who excel in all academic areas. Christopher was nominated by his ELA teacher, Joni Prince-Aulds.
