| VACATIONING WITH FLOYD | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Michael and I looked forward to vacationing at the New Jersey shore this September. Wouldn't you know it, the week we chose was the week of Hurricane Floyd. But we didn't let that stop us! I thought it was kind of romantic to be at the shore together as we watched everyone prepare for Floyd to hit. | When we first arrived, the sun was out. But the weather was not going to cooperate with us. Soon the rain began to fall and it was all we could do to walk on the boardwalk with our umbrellas due to the high winds, and this was just the beginning! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| During our stay there we saw the ocean change as Hurricane Floyd was getting closer. I had never seen the ocean look so angry! We tried to take pictures of the waves as they grew larger and more forceful but these pictures did not capture what we had seen as the waves slammed the coastline. |

| As the rain became heavier and the winds more powerful, people were preparing for the storm. Some were evacuating and we knew we had to go get some food for the next day or so as we didn't know if we would be able to find a place open to get the food if we waited much longer. As you can see in the picture above, the rain was pounding down and I was losing visibility which made driving much more difficult. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| During a "hole" in the storm, we managed to get out and walk on the boardwalk. As you can see, it had taken quite a beating and most of the places were not open. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| As we were walking, we saw this stand and I asked Michael to please stand over by it for a picture. I thought it was the perfect background for my handsome "Italian American" man!! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Oh, Oh!! The wind is picking up again.It's lifting Michael's shirt! Time to take shelter once again!! We'd better hurry back to the motel and hope for the best!! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Look closely above and you will see how they were boarding up the building at the end of this pier. Ironically, this was one of the few places that was open and everyone was inside of it taking shelter. This could have been one of the first places to be affected by the storm since it was right at the ocean front! Luckily, Seaside Heights was not hit as hard as predicted and for that I am thankful. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| On the ride back to the motel the heavy downpours returned and of course the high winds accompanied it. The trees were bending in half and you can see some damage here. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Michael locked up the car while I ran for shelter in our room. We stayed at a 24-room motel and we were the only ones registered once the storm hit. In the background you will see the cute little building where the registration office is and at one point they left and we were there on our own! We figured if anything happened we'd call 911 with our cell phone!. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Michael loves to play the "hook" machines. We pulled out the gang above. From left to right: Chef, Angel Kenny, Mr. Garrison & friend, Beefcake Cartman, The Taco Bell doggie and the cute little elephant from Tarzan. Each year we "hook" as many as we can and donate them to "Toys for Tots" during the Christmas holiday season. |

| Michael and I waited all year for this vacation and although we did not have the best of weather, we were quite content in running away from reality for awhile and being together. It was very romantic, and we thank God that we were kept safe and sound and returned home unharmed. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
