Pittman Family

When Robeson County (NC) formed in 1787 from Bladen County, the Pittmans were already land owners. Captain Thomas Pittman was the immigrant and forefather of the southern Pittman lines. He arrived in Surry County, VA from Monmouthshire, England about 1650. Very political in nature, he and his Judkins step-sons were part of Bacon's Rebellion.

Thomas Pittman III, is probably the first Pittman in the Robeson/Bladen County area, because several of his children were born here in the early 1720s. His son, Isham, was the founder of the First Baptist Church in Fairmont, NC.
