| Joseph Cockman arrived in Moore County, NC around 1775. He married Caterana Cagle and applied for a 50 acre land grant there just after the Rev. War. In 1794...100 acres In 1797...150 acres South of the Deep River, next to Buffalo Creek. No one knows where Joseph COCKMAN originated or when he came to this country. Most believe he came from Norfolk England. However, there is a German "Cockman" surname, and he did marry into a German speaking family. If Joseph was of English origin, then a possible father to him was John COCKMAN, born in Hertfordshire that married a woman named Rose ____. |
