He was a Justice of the Peace on 1 Apr 1790 in Charlotte Co., VA.
(148) He was given the Power of Attorney for William Caldwell when
Caldwell went to KY in 1793. Patillo moved out of the county by 13 July 1796.
(Wm. & Mary, V 21, p 179) He was the guardian for the orphans of Richard
Hays, dec., George Hays and Mary Ann Hays, along with Russell Brown and William
Paulett Harvey. (CO Records Book 9, p. 154) He served in the military on 3 Feb
1794 in Charlotte Co., VA.(149) He
was a Captain of Militia, 2nd Battalion, 26th Regiment. He was an Attorney in
1796. James was the attorney for the legatees of David Caldwell in Charlotte
Co., VA. He appeared on the census in 1800 in Charlotte Co., VA tax list. He
has returned and is the only male in his household. He owned six horses. He
had two slaves over 16 years of age. He served in the military in 1802 in Jefferson
Co., GA.(150) He is referred to as
Major in the list of taxables. He signed a will on 11 May 1804 in Jefferson

The Executors of the will are Douglas Hancock (father in law of David Thomas),
David Thomas, John Thomas. Witnesses were Catherine Murphy and Richard Brown.
The James Pattillo will divided the slaves on September 10, 1818 in Jefferson
Co., GA. The widow, Rebecca Warner was given Ester and her child, America,
valued at $800. George Henry received Wash Marida, valued at $625. David Thomas
by right of his wife, Elizabeth Pattillo, received Charles, valued at $800.
Howell Mooreland and wife, Nancy, got Harrison Milland valued at $550, Russel
Brown in right of his wife, Mildred, received Mariah and Old Tom valued at $400.
The heirs of John Thomas, by right of their mother, Martha, received Hannah
valued at $500. To even up the money value, the heirs pay each other the difference.
Russel Brown received $212 from Rebecca Warner and David Thomas to even up the
dollar amounts. John Thomas' heirs received $112 from David Thomas. David Thomas
paid Howell Moreland and George H. Patillo each $12.50.

Mildred Brown of West Feliciana, LA on July 5, 1836 received from her brother
George H. one negro mama, Marinda and the named children, George, Harriet, Ruth,
Fancy, Fanny, Frank, Martha, Emily.
The Pattillo Family book pg. 148 says each daughter received 1 horse and bridle,
1 feather bed and furniture and 1 large truck. Beloved son, George Henry is
under 18 and is to be kept in school. He receives the 200 acre estate where
they live and the whole of the library. Two male slaves, his surveyor's instruments
and two guns are to be sold. He died after 11 May 1804 in Jefferson Co., GA.
He had an estate probated on 18 Jul 1804 in Jefferson Co., GA. The final division
of property was in 1811 and all the children are named. He was married to Rebecca
BROWN on 5 Jul 1784 in Charlotte Co., VA.(151)
