SEVENTH GENERATION84. Jonathan NEWMAN was born on 25 Dec 1730 in
VA. He signed a will on 16 May 1817 in Union, Monroe Co., VW. I Jonathan Newman
late of teh Co. of Botetourt but now of the Co. of Monroe, do hereby make my
last will and Testament. My Caldwell grandchildren; Betsy, Newman, George Washington,
Jonathan and Sally, children of my daughter Patsey Caldwell and also, Polly Caldwell,
the only child of my daughter, Leah Caldwell, I give 10 pds as they reach legal
age. Sarah Newman, my wife, shall keep all my household items and farm animals
and equipment and negroe girl, Chalott. My negroe boy, Shadick, shall be sold
to pay my debts and money given to my wife for her natural life then equally
divided between my five children; Aron Newman, John Newman, Jonathan Newman,
George Newman, my sons; Joseph Alderson, and his wife, Polly Newman. After the
death of my wife, Sarah, everything is to be sold and divided between my children.

330, 358, 483, 279, 561,408) He is listed as a Juror, farmer of corn, Surveyor
of Roads, owner of 200 acres on the Catawba Creek Branch of the James River.
