656. Johannes Michael BRECHT
(268) was born on 12 Oct 1662 in Kur-Pfals, Bergstrausse, Schriessheim,
Germany. He was born the third of his parents fourteen children. He died on
11 Aug 1719 in Schriesheim-an-der-Bergstrasse, Germany. He was married to Anna
Katherine HOFFMAN on 29 Jul 1684 in Schriesheim-an-der-Bergstrasse, Germany.
657. Anna Katherine HOFFMAN was born about 1664 in
Germany. She emigrated in 1719 from from Germany to America.
(358) After the death of her husband, the wealthy widow, Anna, sold
her home, her vineyards, and her wine house and a few years later traveled with
her two sons, Stephan and Michael to a log house in Pennsylvania. She had an
inheritance from her father's estate too. One of the daughters was married to
a river boat captain. She and the other children stayed in Baden, with the exception
of Johannes who went to Philadelphia on the ship Brittannia on 21 Sept 1731 with
his brother-in-law Gabriel Roscher and Johnn Stephan's sons David (12) and Hans
Wendel (10). She died after 1726 in Berks Co., PA. Children were:
i.
Apollonia BRECHT was born on 9 Mar 1687 in Schreisheim, near Heidelberg,
Palatine Germany.
ii.
Anna Margaretha BRECHT was born on 17 Jun 1685 in Schreisheim, near Heidelberg,
Palatine Germany.
iii.
Anna Elisabeth BRECHT was born on 27 May 1688 in Schreisheim, near Heidelberg,
Palatine Germany.
iv.
Balthasar BRECHT was born on 26 Feb 1691 in Schreisheim, near Heidelberg,
Palatine Germany.
v.
Johann Stephen BRECHT was born on 17 Feb 1692 in Schriesheim, Germany. He
immigrated in Oct 1726. Stephen and Michael came to America with their mother
and settled first in Schohorie, NY and then moved to N. Heidelberg Twp., Berks
Co., PA. Stephen was married three times. He was living in Nov 1726 in Germantown,
PA. They soon moved to the Lebanon Valley and settled there. He owned land
on 27 Nov 1745 in Bethel, Berks Co., PA. Much of his original farm, purchased
from the John, Richard, and Thomas Penn family, has been taken by the Blue Marsh
Project; Brecht-Shower-Ray Berger farm #811; Brecht-Conrad-Fahrenbach-Sheidy
farm #808; and Brecht-Dundor-Hottenstein farm #807. The farm east of the Bright
Schoolhouse Road is still owned by the Bright family. Most of the houses are
gone. Stone barn foundation inscribed John Brecht 1796; stone house closet carved
initials JB 1835; Amish dismantled a barn built 1815-25 He signed a will on
6 Jan 1746 in Bethel, Berks Co., PA. His son, Georg, received the land and his
sons David and Hans divided the land. Reading Will Book A, Vol. 1 page 68. 17
April 1754. All eight children are listed in the will. He died on 24 Sep 1747
in Bethel, Berks Co., PA. He was buried on 25 Sep 1747 in N. Heidelberg Moravian
Cem., Bethel, PA. He was one of the organizers of the North Heidelberg Moravian
Church in 1744 and was the second buried in the graveyard. His gravestone is
about a foot square, first row near the woods behind the church, at the top of
the hill, to the left and in the middle by itself.

Susanna Margarethe BRECHT was born on 12 Jun 1695 in Schreisheim, near Heidelberg,
Palatine Germany.
vii.
Johann BRECHT was born on 17 May 1699 in Schreisheim, near Heidelberg, Palatine
Germany. He may have emigrated to America in 1731.

Anna Katharina BRECHT was born on 25 Mar 1704 in Schreisheim, near Heidelberg,
Palatine Germany.
