Candleford is set on a day in winter on the first hunt meet of the year. It follows the fortunes of the villagers and has a wonderfully diverse range of characters.

The action takes place around Dorcas Lane's Post Office and Forge, where Laura has now moved to work, so we meet the Smiths, Postmen and women and a miscellancy of others.
