This tutorial is designed to help you build a working web page (if you have already built your webpages or have your own editor, like FrontPage, go to a Webpage For Everyone).  We will be using Windows and Netscape Communicator 4.75's composer for this tutorial. Communicator is easy to use, and you can download it free (not a $100.00 like many editors) CLICK TO DOWNLOAD. Follow the directions for downloading and installing. This web page is titled Web Page Tutorial but I call it my "just do it" page. One of the hardest things for many people is getting started. Well that's what this web page is all about, a quick start on something that after you do a couple of times you'll wonder what took you so long the first time.  Everything is free and everything can be undone or changed with a click of the mouse..
 

Before we start we need to make a new folder.
Go to your desktop and open my computer.
Open your Hard disk (should be C/drive).
Between folders Right Click, in the popup window choose new, another window pops up Click on folder, a new folder will appear, name it web pages.
Now that you have 4,75 installed open it up.
Right next to Help at the top it says communicator Click on it and open the window.
Click on composer.
In the left corner where it says Normal open the window and Click on heading 1.
Move the cursor out to the middle and type Welcome.
Click on save.
A window will appear with the cursor blinking in file name. Type in the word test.  Go to the folder icon with the arrow on it and click up c/drive.  Highlight the new folder web pages.
Click open.
Click save.
If a window pops with the word test flashing Click OK
You should be back at your page. Highlight the word Test.
Go to the font size arrow between Variable Width and the black box and open it up.
Click on 36.
Test should still be highlighted but it's much bigger.
Next to the 36 is a black box, Click on the arrow. A color chart will appear.
Click on red. The box will change to red.
Left Click your mouse and the word Test will be large and red.
Move the cursor to the left side of your page
You now have a heading
.Put your font size to 12 and your color to black.
Type; This is my Link
Hit enter
At the top of the page Click on format..
In the window Click Page Colors and Properties
In the middle it says; Netscape Default Colors, Click on the arrow.
Scroll to black on Lt. yellow and Click.
Click on apply.
Click on OK
Your page background changes to yellow.
We are ready to get an image.  You need to be online to do this part.

When the page opens, scroll down, you'll see a little man moving around with a sign that pops out and says "send me email". 
Right Click on him.
In the window left Click on save picture as.
The save picture will open.
Go to the yellow folder button with the arrow pointing up.  Click until you get to My Computer.  Open My Computer.  Open Hard drive (c/drive).  Open web pages folder.
Click save in window.
Open the web page in composer.
Move the cursor to the right.
On the upper right of toolbar Click on image.
In the window Click choose file.
Go to yellow folder button with arrow pointing up. Click until you get to My Computer. Open My Computer.  Open Hard drive (c/drive). Open web pages folder.  Open A-email.
Back at images window.  Click on Apply.  Click on close. Click save
The little man is dancing on your web page.

Do you know what your home page URL will be?.  If you do skip the next 4 lines.  What is my URL? For most services, this will be the host name followed by your email address. For instance, on AOL it will be http://members.aol.com/youremailaddress/
 Excite looks like this; http://members.home.net/youremail address/   Go to your member pages on web sites. Sign up to start/activate your web space.  Your URL  should be listed there.  If not call/email you ISP.help desk. When you get your URL copy it, because you will need it to link and to upload the web pages you create.
