'81 MARK VI CONSUMER REPORT
A few weeks ago I was digging through the manuals in Bettie's glovebox and came across what you see at left, the Consumer Information Report for the 1981 Continental Mark VI 4-Door Sedan. Shown are the acceleration & passing and stopping distances for the vehicle, along with the recommended tire size/cold inflation and reserve load percentage.
ACCELERATION & PASSING
This figure indicates passing times and distances that can be met or exceeded by the vehicle to which it applies, in the situations diagrammed. The low-speed pass assumes an inital speed of 20 m.p.h. and a limiting speed of 35 m.p.h. The high-speed pass assumes an intial speed of 50 m.p.h. ans a limiting speed of 80 m.p.h.:
LOW SPEED PASS: 479 feet; 11.0 Seconds
HIGH SPEED PASS: 1613 feet; 18.3 Seconds
STOPPING DISTANCE
This figure indicates braking performance that can be met or exceeded by the vehicle to which it applies, without locking the wheels, under different conditions of loading and with partial failures of the braking system:
FULLY OPERATIONAL SERVICE BRAKE: Light = 194 feet Maximum = 204 feet
EMERGENCY SERVICE BRAKES(with partial brake system failure):456 feet
BRAKE POWER UNIT FAILURE: Maximum = 456 feet
TIRE RESERVE LOAD CAPACITY
This table lists the tire size designations recommended for use on the vehicle to which it applies, with the recommended inflation pressure for maximum loading and the tire reserve load percentage for each of the tires listed. The tire reserve load percentage indicated is met or exceeded by the vehicle to which the table applies.
RECOMMENDED TIRE SIZE: P205/75R15
RECOMMENDED COLD INFLATION PRESSURE FOR MAX. LOADED VEHICLE WEIGHT: Front = 30 Rear = 34
TIRE RESERVE LOAD PERCENTAGE: 1.00
