| There was a very old graveyard next to the Memorial. Several noteable people are buried there, but I thought this was the coolest. It's hard to read in this photo...it says: "Here lyeth buried the body of Capt.Richard More aged 84 years died 1692...A MAYFLOWER PILGRIM" It looks as though the stone itself was in danger of crumbling and they reinforced it by surrounding it with a steel slab. Several of the older ones were like this in an effort to preserve them, I guess. It was time for the Tall Ships to come in, so we headed back for the pier. |
