BRIDGE OF THE USS OMEGA
CAPTAIN SHIRLEEN TWINNER is seated as the ship moves forward, orbiting a planet. A planet that has many of Earth's qualities. They had arrived two days ago after recieving a signal for help.
TWO DAYS AGO
The starship Omega had been moving forward, always forward in the hopes of finding their way home when they got the signal.
"Captain, I'm picking up a signal?" the Communications Officer, Ensign Toomar speaks up.
Captain Twinner turns her head to look at him,
"A signal? Let's hear it?" she inquires calmly.
Her First Officer, COMMANDER BORTH also looks at Ensign Toomar.
"Aye," Ensign Toomar said, moving his hands/paws over his console for a second or two.
"Anybody out there? We need help. Come in--somebody?-- We have been stranded and require your assistance.-- Our coordinates are 432911. Please help us!" the voice pleads. There is much static in between the message but they all hear it..
Captain Twinner turns her head back, facing forward.
"Should we check it out, Captain?" Commander Borth questions, looking over at her intently.
For awhile, Captain Twinner didn't answer. Her thoughts far away, thinking about the message she just heard. Something about that message didn't quite ring true. The Captain was torn between responding to the message and not doing so. Then her sense of what's right overrides that sense and she looks up,
"Yes, we will see about that message," she said then looks over to the Helmsman, TED PRESTON, "Set a course. Warp eight."
"Aye Captain," Preston declares.
The ship moves on, heading for that destination.
TWO DAYS LATER
the starship Omega is orbiting a class three planet seemingly looking like the earth but without most of the water. As the ship is orbiting the planet, Captain Twinner and Commander Borth were in the turbolift heading for the Bridge. They were discussing what to do next.
"What have the scans picked up? Any life forms?" the Captain asks, the soft hum from the turbolift as it soundlessly moves.
"Scanners have picked up some lifeforms. There also seems to be a community of sorts," Commander Borth's voice rumbles in answer. Captain Twinner looks over at him.
"A community?" she responds.
"Yes. No more than a dozen or so but scanners have picked up more scattered on the planet."
Captain Twinner nods, "Then we'll have to be careful. We can't reveal ourselves. We can send an AWAY Team down, take some sample scanners and return to Omega."
Commander Borth nods as the door whoosh open. The Captain and the First Officer steps out of the turbolift and on deck of the bridge. They move over toward the middle where they sat down.
"Captain, scanners have picked up a large concentration of zion," Zun from Tactical declares.
"Zion?" Captain Twinner questions. There's astonishment in her voice. "Where?"
"Down on that class three planet, Captain," Zun answers. Captain Twinner nods as well.
"We need to find out more about that planet. See to it."
"Aye Captain," Zun said beginning to run more scans of the planet.
Commander Borth looks over at her. His eyes, practically boring in to hers, before he spoke,
"I take it that you are planning to send down an AWAY Team?"
Captain Twinner shrugs in an you got that right way before she answers,
"We need to find out more about that zion. It will be needed on this journey back home."
Commander Borth nods in agreement,
"So, who will be going on this AWAY Mission?"
"I will be one," Captain Twinner said. Commander Borth stares at her for a long time.
"You sure thats wise Captain? I know that you have been on many successful AWAY Missions, but is it wise for you to go now. The inhabitants could be dangerous, violent even."
"Commander, I can take care of myself," Captain Twinner reassured her First in Command. "Besides, I'm not going to miss this mission."
"Just take extra care on this mission Captain," Commander Borth cautions her.
"Of course, Commander," Captain Twinner said calmly.
TWO HOURS LATER
finds Captain Twinner, and four other crew members; two females and two males in Transporter Room One. Commander Borth stood next to the Transporter Technician. He's worried for the captain as she stood among the rest of the AWAY Team.
"You be careful, Captain. This ship needs its Captain," Commader Borth spoke up. Captain Twinner looks at him.
"Don't worry Commander, I will," she said. Commander Borth nods at her as the AWAY Team steps up on the transporter pad; the captain to the forefront as the Transporter Technician activates the Transporter. The AWAY Team disappears.
ON THE PLANET
five light colored silhouettes begins to appear. Then, the light disappear revealing Captain Twinner and the four crew members. Immediately, they separate, beginning their search for the zion.
Captain Twinner, tricorders in hand, is moving through the lush tropical land. The entire planet was like a lush Springtime-like valley with mountains covered in snow, far in the distance. Her tricorder begins regestering zion off to the left. She heads toward it.
WHERE THE CAPTAIN'S HEADED
a couple of humanoids are busily gathering strang fruit like objects from the short stunted trees. These two beings are female wearing animal skins and bows and arrows at their backs. They're carrying wicker baskets that was already half filled with the strange fruits. These beings are heading toward where the captain was.
"What is it with what's going on? Things are changing. Our way of life is changing," the first female voice comes to Captain Twinner's ears. Frowning, Captain Twinner quickly moves toward some strange looking trees out of sight of the two female beings.
"How so, Patana?" the second voice questions.
"You know, the troubles in the air. Surely you can sense it," the first female explains.
"Of course I do. But it has nothing to do with us," the second one said. Their voices, getting more and more far away as the two move away from the Captain's place of concealment. The Captain steps out in to the open where she looks around. A beep beep sounds causing her to reach up with a hand to tap the comm device once.
"Yes?" she asks at the same time.
"Captain, we've found a source of zion," one of the AWAY Team's voice is heard. That brings about a reaction.
"What's your location?" Captain Twinner asks.
"221712, Captain," the voice responds.
"I'm on my way," Captain Twinner declares.
"Aye Captain."
Captain Twinner quickly heads for the quadrant mentioned while passing by some of the more lush of the vegatation. Her steps, in no time, take her to her destination where she easily spots the rest of the AWAY Team. She quickly goes over to them.
"How much zion have the scanners picked up?" she asks, on stopping before them. They were standing before the entrance of a cave. The one who had called, a tall female looks at the tricorder readings before looking back at the captain.
"Point 59 kilometres in this direction, Captain," the crew members says, pointing inside the cave.
Captain Twinner looks at the entrance for a long time, thoughtfully. The cave didn't inspire trust. Who knows what could be inside either dangerous or otherwise. Captain Twinner knew that if the zion was somewhere in that cave, they would need to find out. The ship was soon to need it and one didn't know when they would find more. At the moment, this was the only sighting of zion they found. They needed to take advantage of this opportunity. Captain Twinner nods imperceptibily before beginning to walk in the cave.
"All right, let's check it out," she said, at the same time as she begins walking in to the cave. The Team follows her.
INSIDE THE CAVE SEMIDARK
the Away Team is slowly moving on, being careful, picking their way through the semi darkness of the cave, scanning in their search for zion.
With the AWAY Team moving through the cave, in search of the zion, Captain Twinner's tricorder is the first to pick up on the zion.
"Its this way!" she says quickly heading towards her destination. The others following as the Captain is ahead of them.
DEEP IN THE CAVE
the AWAY Team have stopped, standing before the far side of the cave. The tricorders are picking up what they're looking for: zion.
"Captain, there's a lot of zion here. I'm picking up at least 1.99 of zion," one the the Team says, reading from his tricorder. Captain Twinner nods in agreement picking up the same reading.
As they're taking more readings, Captain Twinner, standing off to one side, happenes to hear a sound. Turning her head, she sought to discover what it was. The sound comes again. This time, she follows the sound, moving away.
Moving away from the other, Captain Twinner heads for the source. As she walks, the sound gets louder and louder. Then she stops. Before her, there's an underground lake and in the very center of this small lake is a figure. To Captain Twinner's eyes, the figure's unable to swim. The figure sinks then bobs to the surface. Without thinking, she dives in to the lake, and swam over toward the person. As she gets there, the figure goes under again. Captain Twinner reaches the figure as she goes under. Quickly, the Captain dives down and comes up with the figure who's unconscious. The rest of the crew, hearing the commotion has followed it as well.
What they saw was Captain Twinner, carrying the female girl. The female was no more than ten years with the marks along her cheeks and wearing animal skins of some kind. The Captain set the little girl down at the bank then looks up.
"Make sure the child's all right," she said as one of the crew steps forward and moving a medical tricorder over the child for a few minutes before looking over at Shirleen.
"Its very serious Captain," the officer begins after looking up from the medical tricorder. "Compound fractures of both arms and legs, contusions, more fractures of the skull. Not too bad. Captain, she's a mess and when she regains consciousness, she's going to be in some serious pain."
Captain Twinner listens to this with dismay but she doesn't show it. She couldn't turn away from this hurt child but the Prime Directive....
"This child needs our help. Prime Directive or no," Captain Twinner declares remembering the additive to the Prime Directive that revealed if a lifeform's existance was endangered, it supersedes not getting involved.
"Aye Captain," the officer said, carefully taking up the child in her arms. "We have to get her to the doctor."
"Yes, we do," Captain Twinner responds before reaching up to the comm device.
"Omega, five to beam."
The AWAY Team with the little girl disappears from the planet and back on board the ship where the little girl is beamed directly to sickbay. Captain Twinner walks there.
IN SICKBAY
Captain Twinner enters, moving over to the bed with the child laying unconscious and the doctor, TAYLOR SHORUN hovering close. She looks up at the Captain's entrance.
"How is the child, Doctor?" Captain Twiner asks, moving closer to the child.
The Doctor turns her head to look over at the captain then back at the child, "she'll be fine now Captain. But how are we going to return her to her people?"
"Don't worry. I have an idea," Captain Twinner responds.
"I sure hope so, Captain," the Doctor says.
MUCH LATER
Captain Twinner is back on the planet, the child in her arms asleep. She's moving along the rocks and boulders in the valley. Up ahead, there's a settlement; the child's home.
The Captain stops, some distance away in plain sight for the child's people to see her and begins backing awy but disaster struck when the Captain accidentally steps in a hole that causes her to fall backward.
Unfortunately, there was the end of the boulders as Captain Twinner plunges many feet over the cliff.
"Ahh!" She exclaims.
She comes to a landing, hitting her head hard on some of the rocks there. Captain Twinner is swiftly unconscious.
CLOSE TO WHERE THE CHILD WAS PLACED
her people are looking for the child. There's a lot of mumbling as they search. The child gives a little moan, revealing where she is. To of her people quickly move over toward the sound.
"Chinka, are you all right?" one of the two asks holding the child closer.
The child, CHINKA looks at the female holding her close, "Did I go to the next life?"
"No. Why would you say that?" the female holding Chinka questions.
"Because I drowned," Chinka answers. There's a collective gasp all around at that.
"But you're alive," another voice, this time a male said.
"I saw this dark skinned angel before water covered my head and I lost my senses," Chinka begins.
The child continues, revealing and finding herself somewhere else. She couldn't move at all. It was like her limbs were filled with lead except she could see. Then China explains seeing that angel bringing her back here and disappearing.
"Did you see where this angel, this Goddess went?"
The child shook her head, then points to where she disappeared from,
"Somewhere over there."
Three people moves over to where the child points, they look around then down. Captain Twinner is still there though she has long since regained consciousness.
The three people gasps loudly causing Captain Twinner to look up. Quickly, she begins moving away, her pace is slow as if she's unsure of where to put her feet.
The female holding Chinka, carries the child over to the edge of the cliff and at the captain,
"Is that your angel, Chinka?"
Chinka stares at the Captain for a long time before nodding,
"Yes."
They begin to go after Captain Twinner, as the captain saw them coming at her begins moving even faster.
ON BOARD THE OMEGA
Commander Borth enters the Bridge, and goes over to his area.
"Have you found the Captain yet?" he asked of Zun.
"Not yet. She hasn't responed to any of our hails," Zun replies.
"Let us see, the Captain returned to the planet with that child and has not returned. We sent out numerous hails that she has not responded to. I believe she's in trouble," Commander Borth declares thoughtfully.
"What are we going to do then, Commander? Should we send another AWAY Team to find her?" the Shapeshifter ROOMA said in question.
"Yes. We must find the Captain," Borth responds in agreement.
The doors to the bridge open as ALIENA and the little BOY from the alien station steps out. Leaving, the little boy standing slightly away from the doors, Aliena looks around.
"Where's the Captain?" she asks.
Commander Borth looks at her then over at the little boy standing there quietly.
"She's somewhere on that planet. We're about to send another AWAY Team to look for her."
"How did this happen, Commander?" Aliena questions.
"A child was hurt, drowning as the captain went to save her," Commander Borth begins.
He goes on to explain how the captain had saved the child and the doctor helping the child. He goes on to mention the captain returning to the planet to return the child to her people.
"She was about to return to the ship when we lost contact," Commander Borth finished.
Aliena had listened with patient attention but a shout causes everyone to turn toward the sound. It was the little boy who had shouted, just before he phazes and disappears.
"Where did he go? And how did he do that?" Ted Preston questions.
Commander Borth shakes his head, not knowing how the boy did it either.
"We have to find the Captain," he said.
ON THE PLANET
the Captain continues to quickly move away from the inhabitants. She looks back every so often but they seem to be gaining on her.
"Omega, come in Omega. This is the Captain. Come in," Captain Twinner continues to say, but her communicator remains silent. I have to keep moving. Ahead of them.
The valley gives way to more mountains as the captain continues to move on, the inhabitants behind her. Suddenly, Captain Twinner stops, gazing in shock. She was blocked by the mountain.
Oh Great! What else can go wrong.
Sure enough, things did go wrong, in the form of the inhabitants who are after her. The Captain begins looking around, to find some kind shelter, to get away but there was nothing.
Then, something happened. It was something the captain didn't understand. She disappeared, vanished yet she was still there, trapped.
She watches as the people stop, confused. Then starts looking around for her, but they're unable to see her. Captain Twinner continues to watch them before looking at herself, questioningly.
Now, how did I do this? There was a tingling, that almost felt pleasant then nothing. she thinks to herself in wonder, still watching the people search for her. There's got to be a rational explaination.
SOMEWHERE ELSE ON THE PLANET
the little boy appears and begins his own search for the Captain. His search, however, is a bit unethical as he just starts moving, looking around for her. At the same time, his lips move but no sound comes from them. He continues his search.
YET, ELSEWHERE ON THE PLANET
five forms are materializing. They solidify revealing Commander Borth, Aliena, Councilor ROOMA, TED PRESTON, and DOCTOR SHORUN. Commander Borth, holding a tricorder in his massive hand, before speaking, saying,
"We will split up to find the Captain. She should be around here, close. As should the little boy."
The four nod as they separate, beginning their search.
WITH CAPTAIN TWINNER
who's still invisible and watching as the inhabitants search for her. She's as close as can be to them and so is close enough to overhear their conversations. From what Captain Twinner can tell the tall dark haired female with the strange birthmark on her forehead is the leader.
"Where did she go?" the female wonders in question. The group are looking around when another person comes forward. This one a male who speaks up,
"Gania, what are we to do now?"
The female with the birthmark, Gania looks at him, the birthmark standing out starkly before she answers,
"We continues our search. She helped Chinka. Kept her from dying even. One with the powers of life and death at her command."
Captain Twinner listens calmly. She doesn't consider herself a God. Sure the Federation Doctors pretty much can bring a person back whereas, it seems these people look upon death and life as an engima and such. Captain Twinner lookes over at the woman Gania as she spoke again,
"Come on now, let's keep searching."
The group move away, separating as they move on, away from the imvisible Captain Twiiner. She gives a sigh, relaxing.
Now, how am I going to reappear here?
WITH THE AWAY TEAM
Commander Borth is moving along, his eyes on the tricorder as he searches for the Captain's signal.
She has got to be around here. But where? he thinks.
The rest of the AWAY Team also search, to no avail.
WITH CAPTAIN TWINNER
who's trying to figure out a way out of this invisibility when something comes to her mind. It seems to be some kind of instructions.
Maybe if I follow these instructions, however they came to mind, I'll reappear she thinks.
Closing her eyes, she begins to concentrate. To focus on a single thought--her reappearance. Deep within, something continues to awaken. To the Captain's eyes, it seems to be a bright light shining. Unconsciously perhaps, she is drawn to this strange light as it gets more and more brilliant as she comes closer. Then the Captain hears an auditable click almost like a key fitting in a lock and a vast roaring coming to her ears. Captain Twinner reappears.
I'm back! Now thats a relief.she thought beginning to walk off. At the same time, she seeks to contact her ship.
"Captain," the voice exclaims from the communicator. "You're alive!"
"Whats the situation?" she asks.
"Commander Borth, Aliena, Councilor Rooma, Leutinent Preston, and the doctor are down on the surface searching for you."
Something else occurs to the Captain as she speaks,
"What about that little boy? Is he still onboard the ship?"
There's silence for a little while before the voice says,
"Captain, we've done a ship to ship scan. The boy's nowhere on board."
"That means he's somewhere on the surface. Probably looking for me," she mutters under her breath.
"Captain?" the voice asks over the communicator.
"Just thinking aloud," the Captain responds.
"Aye Captain," the voice said before going silent.
Captain Twinner begins her search for the little boy now.
WITH THE LITTLE BOY
who's close to Shirleen's position as he searches as well. The little boy, in silence looks everywhere but is unable to find the captain. The longer he searches with no results, the more saddened he becomes. Tears coming to his eyes, the little boy sits on the dirt encrusted ground, beginning to sob in earnest now.
It is at this point when the inhabitants of the planet find the crying little boy.
They had rounded around a bit of rock to the sound of someone crying.
"Who?" the leader of the group questions, head whipping around, searching for the source.
Spotting the strangely dressed little boy, the group stares. The boy seems normal except for his strange garments. It is at that point when the girl the captain had saves gives a shout,
"The lady who saved me was wearing clothing like that!"
The sound rouses the little boy who stares at the group fearfully. The leader looks to the girl, a question in her eyes.
"Are you sure?"
"Oh yes! I remember the clothes and they were like that," the girl murmurs pointing at the little boy's garments. The leader nods,
"Perhaps then, this child is with the savior, the Goddess of Life and will surely want her child back. And maybe she will reward us for caring for the boy," the leader said thoughtfully. "There is so much she can do for us."
Her group mutters nodding in agreement. The little boy had been watching the group, his tears drying on his small face. He had no idea what these strange people were planning, only that it involved him.
The group begins inching over to the boy who noted the movement and began moving away from them.
"Come on little boy," the leader spoke. Her voice is soft, soothing but the little boy continues to back away. The leader seems to nod at someone behind the boy.
Still backing away, the boy doesn't realize anything's wrong until its too late, as a pair of arms wrap around him, holding him fast. The little boy begins to squirm and wriggle in the woman's arms but she still has a hold on him.
"Don't worry little one. We just seek the one who saved our little one," the leader said in a soft voice but the boy continues to struggle.
WITH CAPTAIN TWINNER
who has found the landing party. Gathering around her, they wonder what has been happening but the Captain forstalls their quiestions with an upraised hand.
"First things first, we have to find that little boy," she says.
"But isn't he back on the ship?" Commander Borth questions.
Captain Twinner shakes her head, "No. Somehow he disappeared from the ship and is somewhere on the planet."
"Then we must find him," Aliena responds.
"Then we begin the search for the little boy," Commander Borth makes it a question as he looks at the Captain.
"That we do," Captain Twinner declares.
Captain Twinner and the AWAY Team begins their search. Always moving away from the spot the Captain was found but keeping in contact.
SOMETIME LATER
the Captain stops for awhile when a soft beep is heard. She reaches up to tap the comm device.
"Captain, we may have ascertained where the boy is?"
"Where?" Captain Twinner asks in question.
There was silence for a little as Captain Twinner waits, her gaze looking around.
"It would seem he met up with some of the inhabitants of the planet. They have him Captain," the voice over her comm unit spoke.
Captain Twinner nods in understanding before speaking,
"All right. Let's get back to the ship. We have to figure out how to get him out without violating the Prime Directive."
"Aye Captain."
Captain Twinner is silent once the voice from her comm unit is gone. Her thoughts are on the little boy. Always so silent yet following her. At first, as the little boy was getting settled. His quarters were among other children but he would never be there. Instead, he would be Captain Twinner's shadow. It even got to the point that Captain Twinner decides to just move the child in to her quarters. Since then, he hasn't done anything more since she did that.
Captain Twinner once more touches her comm unit.
"One to beam," the captain said, now in contact with the ship orbiting the planet.
"Aye Captain," the voice responds.
Captain Twinner let her hand fall from the comm unit. She feels a slight tingling coursing through her body. The tingling gets stronger as she begins to fade, molecule by molecule.
ON THE OMEGA
In the Transporter Room, the technician is standing before a small console working the transporter before him. A strange sound could be heard as the transporter has been activated.
At first, little sparkers appear then gradually the form of Captain Twinner begins to appear standing on the transporter pad. Until finally the transporter stops and the captain steps off. She moves over to the Transporter technician.
"Have the rest of the AWAY Team made it back onboard?" she asks.
"Yes Captain," the technician answers.
Captain Twinner nods before heading out as the door slide open with a soft whoosh sound.
"Have them meet me in my Ready Room," She said.
"Aye Captain," the technician responds as she leaves. The doors whoosh shut behind her.
CAPTAIN'S READY ROOM
the inside of the Ready Room as Captain Twinner enters is huge. Three long windows, one beside the others with the view of space beckoning is to the left as the captain enters. A larger table with soft chairs bolted down around the table. Seated in a few of those chairs are the Senior Officers: First Officer, the Doctor, Communications, Tactical, Helmsman and the Chief Engineer.
At the Captain's entrance, they all rose from their seats, remaining so until she sat in her seat at the head of the table. Then they resume their seats.
"Any ideas on getting that child out?" the captain began in question.
"We should find out where the boy's being held first, Captain," the First Officer spoke up.
"Yes. Yes I know. I'm very worried about him though."
"Then, perhaps the doctor can disguise someone to discover where he is. Then we can transport him back to the ship," said the Helmsman.
"That is good but who?" Captain Twinner answers in question.
"I'm willing," the Helmsman answers.
Captain Twinner looks at him. She could see hte concern written in his eyes, his very position. Since they had taken in the child, Captain Twinner had noticed how Preston spent a lot of time with the boy. She could see the patience whenever he and the little boy was together.
Now, decisive, Captain Twinner nods in agreement.
"Make it so," was all she said.
They all nod in agreement. Captain Twinner watches as the Officers began filing out to begin implimenting the plan to rescue the little boy down on the planet.
LATER BACK ON THE PLANET
a man enters the complex where the inhabitants have gathered. He looks a lot like the other men there but he's cloaked and has a light brown colored, long wicker-like pack on his back. In fact, he's a disguised Ted Preston.
"Surely this boy will bring our quartty to us?" Ted heard one say.
Looking off to the very center of the large, hut, Ted saw the boy. he's huddled, curled within himself. Ted moves away so that no one will be able to hear or even see him. He moves his hand across his face seemingly as if he's tired.
"I see the child, Captain," he speaks under his breath.
"Any way to get close to him," the captain's voice comes to his ears.
"Let me see. But I doubt it," Ted mutters.
MOving away, once again, Ted begins weaving among the inhabitants, in a effort to get closer.
Right before the child, Ted is stopped by one of the leaders, the same woman who brought the child in, in the first place.
Ted moves away again, back to his hiding place.
"Sorry Captain. No can do," he whispers.
"All right. Keep an eye out then," her voice comes to his ears.
ON THE OMEGA
after Preston's report, Captain Twinner get to her feet and left the bridge. In the turbolift, her thoughts were on the boy and the plan to get him out. A sudden tingling startles her as she begins to disappear from the turbolift. Whats going on here? comes her thought, right before she vanishes.
ON THE PLANET
in the room where the boy is, the inhabitants continue to argue on what to do when Captain Twinner made her appearance. Everyone in the room gasps except for one. Ted Preston. He was startled at the captain's appearance as was the captain. The little boy looks up and hurls himself into her arms, shuttering and crying.
"You are the one who will help us, Great One?" the leader spoke in a deferincial tone. Captain Twinner looks at her.
"I can not," she said.
"But we have cared for your child," the leader protests. "You must help us?!"
"I am as human as any. I am no God or whatever," the Captain answers.
"But you saved Chinka from the lake!"
"I swam out to her, that is all," the captain said. The leader's head drops but raises again in understanding,
"You are not a God."
Captain Twinner nods. Ted Preston moves to stand at the Captain's side as the captain explains everything about herself. Strange things she could do and everything. The inhabitants nods allowing the three to leave. The captain, Ted Preston, and the little boy are beamed back to the ship.
The End
Note: Oh Man! That was a long one to write but I'm finally done. You enjoyed this one, then wait till you check out Episode 7. It'll be a blast. Chao for now!
