Two girls are walking along Route 30. It is during the night. The trees about them seem to have a scary quality to them. Beside a black haired nine year old girl who's wearing a pink lined jacket is a small chikorita and a pichu. The other girl is about twelve with blue spiky short hair and green eyes, walking beside the other girl. She turns to the black haired girl.
"So, you know where we're supposed to go next?"
The black haired girl, Sura Namiru by name shakes her head and points to the left of them where the road goes, "I think we should stay on the road, Lyla."
The blue haired girl, Lyla nods "okay. Let's go."
"Pi pi?" Pichu answers.
"Chika?" coming from chikorita.
Sura looks over at her pokemon before answering, "we've got to get out of here. I've heard that Haunter and Gengar tends to frighten travellers at night along this route."
"Ghosts...?!" Lyla exclaims in fright. She jumps at the mention of ghosts. "I don't like ghosts."
Sura continues to look at Lyla curiously, "You don't like ghost pokemon?" she asks.
Lyla shakes her head, "its not that. I just don't like ghost. They give me the creeps."
"Oh."
The two girls continue on along Route 30 heading for Violet City.
Walking amid the trees, the two girls hear the creaking and groaning all around them. Lyla is walking extremely close to Sura with such a look of fright on her face.
"L--Let's hurry up a--and get outta here," Lyla stammered.
Sura only nods as the two girls continue walking. The leaves of the trees sway. Lyla stops, looking around.
"What is it Lyla?" Sura asks stopping to stare at her friend. Thats when Lyla screams in fright. Sura is confused as are Chikorita and Pichu.
"Lyla?!" Sura shouts.
"Get em away! Ahhh!!!"
"Pi?"
"Chik chika?"
Small blue and pink balls of light appear before them all now. Sura starts as she seems to be seeing something. Sura, Chikorita, and Pichu see these and start screaming and yelling in fright waving their hands above their heads.
"HOOT!"
A red beam of light illuminates the balls of light causing them to disappear. Lyla and Sura look around for the source as the balls of light disappear and spot a small owl pokemon standing on one foot.
"Hoot Hoot!" it says.
The owl pokemon is standing close to Lyla. It is rubbing against her legs. She looks down.
"Um."
Sura takes out her pokedex and aims it at the pokemon.
***HOOTHOOT, THE FLYING/PSYCHIC POKEMON. HOOTHOOT IS A NOCTURNAL POKEMON. IT ONLY COMES OUT AT NIGHT***
"A Hoot Hoot. How cool!" Sura exclaims.
"But why is it following me?" Lyla asks.
Sura watches as the Hoot Hoot continues to follow Lyla around as she moves from side to side to get away from it. She shakes her head in confusion. "I don't know. But let's get out of here."
Lyla nods as the two girls walk away. Hoot Hoot watches the two then follows.
IN THE MEANTIME
Team Rocket, Anita and Alex are lost and reading a map they have. The two are squatting along the ground.
"Now how could we be lost, Alex?" Anita yells in anger, looking at the map. "We got this map. It should lead us out of this forest!"
"I know Anita, I know," Alex exclaims still trying to read the map, to no avail.
Voices come to their ears from close by.
"Who's that?" Anita said. Alex shook his head.
They part some bushes to look through. Who they see shocks and elates them. Releasing the bushes Alex and Anita looks at each other.
"What luck. Its the brat and her pokemon," Alex says.
"We can steal that chikorita and pichu. The boss will be proud of us," Anita declares. Alex nods.
Lyla and Sura have started walking again, Hoot Hoot following them(Well, mainly Lyla). Lyla turns to see the Hoot Hoot still following.
"Why's this Hoot Hoot following me?" Lyla asks.
"Don't know."
The two girls stop walking. Lights appear around them again. The two girls start screaming.
"Pi pi!"
"Chik ka!"
Lyla is covering her eyes and screaming while Sura is waving her arms in the air, in front of her face.
"Hoot."
Lyla uncovers her eyes, picks up Hoot Hoot as the two girls flee, dots still about them. They just can't escape them.
"Hoot Hoot! Do something?!" Sura shrieks, waving her hands attempting to shoo away the illusions. Lyla's covering her face again.
"Hoot! Hoot!"
Hoot Hoot looks over at Lyla. Its eyes frown realizing that she was in distress. The Hoot Hoot looks over at the lights.
Red lights, coming from Hoot Hoot's eyes striking at the balls of light. They disappear as Hoot Hoot looks around, red light going around the group. Along the branches of trees around the two girls, a group of gengars and haunters are there.
"It was ghost pokemon doing this. But why?" Lyla asks bringing her hands from her eyes to look around.
"Gengar."
"Haunter."
Sura only shrugs saying to her chikorita now, "chikorita, razor leaf! Now!"
"Chika," Chikorita says as leaves come out from at its neck and is sent over to the left of them.
"Pichu Thundershock!" Sura commands.
"Pi." says Pichu as its cheek pouches light up. Lightening appears around the small electric pokemon then is released.
"Pi chuuuuuu!"
Pichu's attack strikes to the right as the gengars and haunters disappear, singed to their nonexistance eyebrows.
"Hey! You girls okay?" a voice, coming from behind them asks.
Sura and Lyla turns to see a tall boy of thirteen with orange curly hair coming up to them.
"Are you all---right?" he asks again.
Lyla stares at the boy before nodding. He's wearing jeans and a t-shirt.
"Ah.... yeah. We're fine," Lyla blushes bright red. Sura looks over at her friend wondering about Lyla's color change. Shrugging, she turns back to the boy.
"Everything's fine."
The boy nods, "lost eh?"
"Hoot hoot," Hoot Hoot said, cuddling against Lyla's leg. The boy watches this, a smile playing at his mouth.
"I see you have a Hoot Hoot," he began.
Sura nods, "but Lyla here's the one who has it."
"I know," the boy smiles. "My name's Ross."
"Lyla."
"Sura Namiru from New Bark Town."
"Where you heading to?" Ross asks.
"We're heading for Violet City," Sura answers. Ross looks at the girls.
"Violet City eh. You're gonna try for the Zephyr Badge?"
Sura stares at Ross before answering, "Uh....Yeah."
"The gym leader there is really tough. He uses bird pokemon," Ross spoke.
"You seem to know a lot about him. HOw's that?" Lyla asks.
Ross shrugs nonchalently, "who knows. I want to be the very best pokemon breeder I can be and so I learn about the different gym leaders."
"Pokemon---breeder?" Sura asks.
"Breeders of pokemon, Sura," Lyla says.
Ross nods in agreement. "Yes. I'm gonna breed pokemon. Right now I want to learn everything there is about pokemon."
"Wow! Wanna come with us?" Lyla asks Ross. "We could sure use a pokemon breeder.... As a friend, I mean."
"Lyla!" Sura exclaims.
"Sure," Ross smiles. Lyla blushes. "Better put that Hoot Hoot in a pokeball."
"Oh!? But," Lyla protests.
"Go on Lyla. Hoot Hoot likes you. It'll make a great pokemon for you," Ross said. Sura nods in agreement.
"If you think so?" Lyla said taking up a pokeball. Sura and Ross nods. With a smile, Lyla tosses the pokeball at Hoot Hoot who enters. The pokeball drops to the ground, the red light in the center blinks then goes out. Lyla steps forward picking up the pokeball housing Hoot Hoot. She smiles, exclaiming, "yes! A Hoot Hoot!"
"Thats great Lyla!" Sura exclaims. Ross also nods. There's a smile at his mouth.
"You girls ready to go to Violet City?" he asks.
"Pi chu!" from pichu in excitement.
"Chika!" from Chikorita, also in excitement.
The groups walks on.
WITH ALEX AND ANITA AND HITMONCHAN
who're far ahead of the two girls and Ross.
"Hey Alex, hurry up with that pit!" Anita said, jumping from a tree in front of the large hole being dug by Alex and Hitmonchan.
"Just have to cover the hole," Alex said beginning to pile branches and leaves covering the hole. Hitmonchan helping.
Anita had long since finished as her ears pick up the sound of Sura and her companions getting closer. "Tney're coming! Hide!" she whispers urgently.
Alex and Hitmonchan quickly joins Anita in the bushes close to the traps they had set.
SURA, ROSS, AND LYLA
are walking through the trees. Sura's pichu is riding on Sura's shoulder while chikorita is in the girl's arms.
"So, the gym leader at Violet City uses bird pokemon and you Ross want to be a Pokemon Breeder? Whats that like?" Sura asks.
"Yes and I can discover and learn all about pokemon including their eating habits and stuff. Its very rewarding," Ross answers. Sura nods.
"Chika," Chikorita says. Sura smiles and cuddles her chikorita. The three kids continue to move onward getting closer and closer to Team Rockets' traps.
Anita and Alex watch, smiles on their faces. "Closer....Closer," Anita mutters under her breath.
Sura, Lyla, Ross, Chikorita, and Pichu continue to walk. They step on the leaves hiding the hole. Sura keeps going as Lyla and Ross stops. "You guys hear something?" Lyla asks looking to Ross. Sura has turned around on Lyla's words.
"Like what?" Ross inquires.
"Like---something---breaking!" Lyla answers.
As Lyla says the word breaking, she and Ross drop into the hole with a yell. Sura rushes over to the edge of the pit to see Ross and Lyla in a tangled mass of arms and legs.
"What?" Sura exclaims.
Lyla looks up at Sura, "quick find something to get us out!" she calls up to Sura. Sura nods and moves away, her pichu and chikorita walking with the girl. Sura doesn't see the rope in front of her till she steps in the circle. "Now where____" she exclaims as she goes up into the air upside down, dangling.
"Pi?" Pichu makes it a question.
"Chika?"
"Chikorita, razor leaf this rope," Sura exclaims still dangling upside down.
"Chika."
Chikorita does so as two leaves coming from it speeds toward the rope holding Sura secured, cutting the girl down. She falls.
"Ahh! Ooof!" she says landing on the ground in a heap.
"PI!"
"CHIKA!"
Sura looks up to see two metal claws latch onto Sura's pichu and chikorita by their waists.
"Pichu! Chikorita!" Sura shouts trying to grab at her pokemon as they are hoisted away from Sura.
Now, laughter is heard as Sura calls out, "who's there?! What's going on?"
"You got some trouble!" Anita's voice come to Sura's ears.
"And now make it double!" Alex's voice said. The two take a step forward so allowing Sura to see them.
"To infect the world with devastation!"
"And get it ready for integration!"
"To trample the way through truth and love!"
"By stomping the might from the stars above!"
Spotlights come on now focusing on the two.
"Anita!"
"Alex!"
"Team Rocket! Knocking good out at the speed of light!" Anita and Alex shout in confident voices. "You better surrender or prepare to fight!"
At the end of that speech, hitmonchan steps between Anita and Alex, striking a punching pose while at the same time saying, "Hit--mon--chan!"
Sura notices that Hitmonchan has her pichu and chikorita in its grip.
"You better gimme back my pokemon!" Sura shouts out. Team Rocket only laughs.
"Sorry girlie. These are for the boss," Anita smiles down at the three. Sura's hands clench into fist.
"You obviously can't hold onto them so they're coming with us," Anita adds.
"Thats right!" Alex declares, standing next to his partner.
"Pichu! Chikorita!" Sura shouts out. Team Rocket laughs.
"Nope sorry girlie," Alex laughs. With a growl of frustration, Sura removes another pokeball tossing it out before her.
"Pidgey! I choose you!" she shouts.
The pokeball opens revealing the bird pokemon as it flew up. "Pidgey, Gust attack!" Sura commands.
"Pidge!"
The pidgey began flapping its wings quickly. A wind buffet Team Rocket as they try and keep on their feet.
"Sura, pichu maybe in that container but chikorita's not," Ross said.
Sura nods, "Chikorita razor leaf!"
"Chik--ka!" Chikorita said as leaves strike at hitmonchan, Alex, and Anita. More leaves and pichu's free. Then chikorita's free.
Sura, getting to her feet as Lyla and Ross climbs out of the pit to stand next to the nine year old. Sura looks at her pichu saying, "Pichu Thundershock!"
"Piii---CHUUUUU!"
Pichu's cheek pouches sparkle then let loose as lightening strikes out at Alex, Anita, and Hitmonchan, lighting the three up.
"AHHHH!" Alex and Anita shriek as pichu's attack strikes them.
"Chikorita, razor leaf again!" Sura commands.
"Chik-ka!" More razor leaves strike at Team Rocket as they're blown up into the sky and are soon distant dots in the sky.
"Chikorita! Pichu! Are you all right?" Sura asks on moving over to the two.
"Pi pi."
"chik chik chika."
Getting to her feet again, Pichu on her should and Chikorita in her arms, Sura says to Ross and Lyla, "Let's get out of here before Team Rocket comes back."
"Chika."
"Chu."
Ross and Lyla nods. Sura holds out her pidgey's pokeball saying, "Pidgey! Return!"
Pidgey gets recalled into its pokeball as the group continues on. Now, at a faster pace in their zeal to get out of the forest heading for Violet City.
EDGE OF THE FOREST WITH VIOLET CITY JUST AHEAD
the three kids spot the city from ahead. They stare at it for a long while.
"Violet City. Straight ahead," Ross begins.
"Here I come! My first gym challenge!" Sura exclaims.
"Pi pi!"
Sura takes off at a run leaving Lyla and Ross. After awhile Lyla calls out, "Sura! Wait up!"
And runs after Sura. Ross follows the two girls down toward Violet City.
