Posters and Art of WWII

This page contains various examples of art and propaganda posters from various countries involved in WWII. I will be adding to these examples as material becomes available to me. Some of these images are courtesy of the National Archives. My thanks to all the other people and organizations that have allowed me to use their images.

(I will be adding more to this page shortly)

The government played on the 'guilt' of the people at home while others were away fighting.

This poster caused a stir, women objected to the insinuation that their stereotyped 'gossipy' ways led to soldiers being killed.

This poster was aimed at the 'god fearing' folks of America and 'shows' what would happen if the 'ungodly' Germans arrived.

The government wanted people to know that something thrown away was something wasted!

Well muscled 'heroes' were the order of the day for propaganda posters.

Everyone was expected to work for the war effort, with most men away fighting, women stepped into their shoes in factories, transport, etc. After working 10-12 hour days, they still had to go home and take care of the family.
