first of all there are some tools to help you with this task(most of them u can find on
download.com)
tweakui-[freeware]- which allows you to fine-tune
the Windows 98 and Windows NT 4.0 User Interface ("UI").
MS registry cleaner-[freeware]- allows you to edit startup, uninstall ,filetypes,newfiles menu,shell extentions,and registry cleanup
SiSoft Sandra 2001-The "System ANalyser, Diagnostic and Reporting Assistant" is a Windows 32 information/diagnostic utility
ultraedit-[$30.00]-professional text/hex/html/c++/java/javascript editor(good substitute for notepad)
Lavasoft Ad-aware-[freeware]-free multi spyware removal utility designed for all Win9x / ME / NT40 / W2000 platforms
BOOT SECTION
when your computer boots up press the following buttons:
f2-enter bios setup(some functions could be disabled by pc manufacturer)
f8-enter boot menu( normal,logged,step by step confirmation,safe mode,ms-dos prompt)
del,(ctrl+alt+s)-cmos setup(could be disabled, blame your pc manufacturer for that)
if you dont like microsoft sartup logo you can change it by replacing "c:\Strtlogo.sys" ,the shutdown logo "c:\windows\Logow.sys"-open mspaint and drag the file there and the magic will happen
to edit the startup items in windows 98:
click: start > run , and type "msconfig" and the system configuration utility will appear
or click: start>program>accessories>system tools>system information and (tools-dropdown menu)
