Ch 1 Satan's Origin and Fall.
The Word of God has much to say concerning Satan, and clearly describes his beginning, the fall from his original estate, and his eventual end. Let's look at these portions of Scripture in detail.
Ezekiel 28:14 to18 tells us Lucifer (or Satan) was created to be the servant of the Lord God Almighty. Thou are the anointed cherub that covereth: and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God: thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee, thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty. thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, l will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.
These verses contain a number of facts that should be underscored mentally. First, Satan was a created being (verse 15). Second, he was perfect in his original creation. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created... (verse 15). Third, Satan was the anointed cherub (verse 14). The word cherub, in Scripture, always denotes "a spiritual being who is in close relationship to God." Fourth. Satan was appointed by God to hold an exalted position. Thou wast upon the holy mountain of God... (verse 14). Fifth and finally, he sinned. Iniquity was found in thee (verse 15). This statement is in complete agreement with the rest of the Holy Bible. Satan's two major sins have to do with lying and pride.
Some members of the human race think that they are too good to be classified as sinners. Because they have never robbed, raped, or riddled a man with bullets, salvation to them seems unnecessary. Yet Satan fell from his exalted position in heaven because of the two sins which prevail in superabundance throughout our nation and the world, lying and pride. Scams, extortion, deception, exaggeration, bribery, and nearly every other kind of sin begin with lying. The gossip of longtongued church members against other believers could also be listed under this heading. Indeed, most of one's motives for self-defense, self-glory, and primping before a mirror two hours each day, or thinking one is better than others fall within the classification of pride. Who dares contradict God when He emphatically states in Romans 3:10, There is none righteous, no, not one, or in Romans 3:23, For all have sinned .... Jesus said in John 8:44 that Satan was a liar, and the father of it.
Lucifer's sin of pride is recorded in Ezekiel 28:17, Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty.
This same sin is also mentioned in 1 Timothy 3:6 which states that a minister is not to be a novice or a new convert, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. In other words, such an individual might fall into the same condemnations as the devil when his head swelled because of his exalted position.
The account of Satan's fall is also recorded in Isaiah 14:12 to 15: How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds: I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. Here Lucifer's pride problem is obvious: "I will... I will... I will..." He should have seen a good optometrist for his "I" trouble! The same sin of pride dominates so many lives today. Still, great numbers of persons refuse to recognize the fact that they are sinners.
Ch 2 Satan's Present Abode.
The preceding verses establish the fact that Satan was cast out of heaven. However, this does not mean that Satan was cast into hell. The next statement will shock some. Satan has never been any where in the vicinity of hell, and neither have his demons! Their confinement there is yet to come. Presently the devil and his array of malignant spirits are in control of the present world system (see 2 Corinthians 1:4). The turmoil in the Middle East Africa, Central America, and other world trouble spots is completely under his supervision. The leaders of communism fascism, and every false cult that scoffs the true God and His Word are under the same diabolical dictator-Lucifer! How can this be?
The Bible informs us that there are three heavens (see 2 Corinthians 12:2). The first heaven is the atmosphere above the earth, the second heaven is the starry constellation or stellar heaven, and the third heaven is the abode of God. Today, Satan is able to stand at the edge of the second heaven and cry out stinging accusations against the people of God. In fact, Revelation 12:10 calls him the accuser of [the] brethren. The fact that he is in control of the first and second heavens is proved by Ephesian 2:2 which describes him as the prince of the power of the air. In addition, Ephesians 6:12 states. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world. against spiritual wickedness in high places. The terra high places literally means "in the heaven,." or "in the heavenlies." Since it is plural in form, it refers to the first and second heavens.
One day soon, Satan's abode will again change, because he will be cast out of the first and second heavens to the earth during the Tribulation hour. This event will be the result of a battle between Michael the archangel and other angels, and Satan and his malicious spirits or demons in the heavens. And there was a roar in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon [Satan]: and the dragon fought and his angels (Revelation 12:7). Verses 8 and 9 inform us that Satan uses his position in the heavens: And [Satan] and his angels prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon...was cast out into the earth and his angels were cast out with him.
At that time Satan assumes a post here on earth and plagues the world as never before in history. If you think that demonic powers are present at the moment, just wait until the saints have been raptured away and Satan and his armies have taken full control of the earth. Life won't be worth living. Revelation 12:12 states, Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! For the devil is coming down unto you, having great wrath, because he knows that he hath but a short time.
When Satan is cast to the earth, he will realize that the time of his confinement in the bottomless pit is at hand (see Revelation 20:1,2) and that at best he has but 1,260 days to continue his, work (if this event takes place during the last three and one half years of the Tribulation hour). Undoubtedly, this is why Matthew 24:22 states, And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake [Jews] those days shall be shortened.
Yes, the day is coming when all the demonic hosts now in the heavenlies will come to earth and release their judgmental powers on the world's citizens. Presently, Satan and his demons make visitations to the earth, ...going to and fro in the earth, and... walking up and down in it (Job 1:7). First Peter 5:8 warns Christians, Be sober, be vigilant: because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.
Ch 3 Satan's Demise.
At the close of the Tribulation Hour, which ends with the Battle of Armageddon, Satan and his demons will be put out of business for 1,000 years. Revelation 20:1 3 describes the scene: And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and. bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottom less pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive [note the sin of lying once again] the nations no more ....
As a result, world peace and universal utopia become a reality as the Lord Jesus Christ himself rules the world. Isaiah 2:4 tells us that men ...shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. Don't blame war on God! Russia, China, their communist satellites, and all nations have better days coming.
Following the 1,000 year or millennial reign of Christ on earth, Satan will be loosed from the bottomless pit in order that those persons born during the Millennium may exercise their God-given free will and choose whom they will serve (see Revelation 20:7,8). Amazingly, multitudes will turn from the Lord of lords and King of kings to the archdemon Satan! One simply cannot fathom the hardness of the human heart. Even after these individuals have lived, walked, and talked with Jesus for 1,000 years, they forsake the Saviour for Satan. No wonder the prophet Jeremiah said, The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jeremiah 17:9).
Ch 4 Satan's Final Judgment.
During this insurrection, Satan and his followers renew their attempt to usurp God's authority and throne taking up exactly where they left off during the Tribulation Hour. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city [Jerusalem] ... (Revelation 20:9). This time, however, they meet their Waterloo for fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever (verses 9,10).
Next, we discover that the devil-led, demon-influenced multitudes of all ages must stand before God to give an account of why they followed Satan. Verses 11 to15 state, And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
What an awesome scene as every individual who has rejected Christ and is therefore of his father, the devil (see John 8:44), stands with Satan on this day of great judgment. Even worse, YOU will be there too if you have not asked Christ to come into your heart and be your Saviour. You better believe it God makes no difference. In the judgment Christ rejecters and those who are presently enamoured by witchcraft, sorcery, ouija boards, clairvoyants, horoscopes, fortune-tellers, palm readers, tarot cards, numerology, tea leaf readings, crystal gazing, voodoo, white magic, I Ching, telepathy, seances, astrological charts, or transcendental, meditation, beware! You may literally be in league with the powers of hell, For John 3:18 Says. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not. Yes, believeth not. Is that you? Is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Do you want to ruin your life upon earth and miss heaven!
Today, however, there is still hope, for Jesus Christ God's Son loves you, died for you, and shed His blood for the forgiveness of your sins. He also rose again and sits at the Father's right hand to make intercession for His own (see Mark 16:19 and Hebrews 7:25). You can be saved this very moment if you will only repent of your sins (see Luke 13:3) and receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour (see Romans 10:13). He will set you free from the power of evil that binds you. Receive Him now!
Ch 5 Demons: their origin, work, and ultimate destruction.
Are demons real? Where did they originate? How do they operate? Are they really present to assist in seances? Are they behind the mysterious powers of fortune-tellers, mystics, clairvoyants, and palm readers? Do they have anything to do with voodoo, white magic, telepathy, astrological charts, and the Oriental meditation cults? Once again, let's look into God's Holy Word for answers to these important questions.
For a number of reasons, I personally believe that demons are fallen angels. 1 Colossians 6:3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels, how much more things that pertain to this life? Note not good angels as they don’t need to be judged. But the fallen ones. In the first place, God created nothing that was evil. Lucifer, who became the devil, was perfect before his fall (see Ezekiel 28:15). Therefore, other perfect beings must also have fallen from their perfect condition to one of iniquity, as did Satan. Secondly, since Lucifer was an angel (a cherub) who became the arch or number one demon, it is only logical to state that the angels who followed his leadership also fell because of the same sin, pride (see 1 Timothy 3:6), and also became demons. Finally, since angels are associated with the devil and his work, as are the demons, they must be the angels who fell from their holy estate.
Revelation 12:7 reveals the association of the fallen angels with Satan's program: And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels [good ones] fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels [evil ones]. Verse 9 continues, And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
We also note in Matthew 25:41 that hell has been prepared for the devil and his angels. Nowhere does the Bible mention a judgment for demons. However, it does mention the judgment of Satan and his deomsangels. Since the demons perform their evil work under Satan's guidance and at his command, and because the Bible teaches the judgment of the devil and his angels, one cannot help but conclude that the demons are the fallen angels. I have studied nearly every book written on the subject of demonology and find that most scholars do not commit themselves. Still, I believe that there is an answer and that the facts outlined above provide it for us.
One account concerning the sin of the angels is found in 2 Peter 2:4: God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment.
The other text depicting the angel's sin is found in Jude 6: And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
Some may believe that since these angels have been chained, they are unable to roam as demons upon the earth. Let's consider the subject carefully.
First, 2 Peter 2:4 states that the angels were "cast down to hell." However, the Greek word is tartarus, not the lake of fire or place of burning. Therefore, this is not the final gehenna where the angels and sinners are imprisoned to burn forever following the Great White Throne judgment of Revelation 20:11 15.
Remember that Matthew 25:41 states that hell has been prepared for the devil and his angels and this is a place of future burning according to Revelation 20:15. The angels of 2 Peter 2:4 are not in that place of fire presently. Rather, they are in tartarus, or "the place of waiting", a special place that fallen angels (or demons) call home. Because translators have made the word hell out of tartarus, many have the false idea that Satan and his demons are currently in hell, roasting their victims. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Again I say that tartarus in this text is not the lake of fire. It is the place the demons congregate and call home.
Secondly, the phrase, "chains of darkness," cannot refer to a literal binding because angels are spirits, and chains cannot hold a spirit without a physical body. The Lord Jesus, as a spirit, could walk through closed doors (see John 20:19 to 26). Thus, this statement undoubtedly means that the angels are ruled, controlled, and dominated by darkness and wickedness until the judgment day. Such a description certainly fits their situation.
The devil has many names that depict his unholy attributes and deeds. Since we have determined that Satan is a fallen angel who became a demon, and that the fallen angels who followed him are also demons, we can assuredly state that they may be classified with Satan according to his biblical titles. In Revelation 9:11, he is called the angel of the bottomless pit. He is also an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). In this capacity, he fools those persons who follow damnable, heretical cults and new religions. Satan is also the enemy (Matthew 13:29), the foul spirit (Mark 9:25), the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4), a liar, and the father of [lies] (John 8:44), the tempter (Matthew 4:3), and the serpent (Genesis 3:1). The demons that follow Satan share these titles with him as enemies, foul spirits, lying spirits, tempters, and unclean spirits.
Ch 6 The Demonic Order.
Now that we have discussed the origin of demons, let's investigate their administrational workings. Satan is powerful, but he does not possess the attributes of God Almighty. Satan is mighty, but not almighty. He is intelligent, but not omniscient or all knowing. God Almighty knows everything, whereas Satan is limited in knowledge. Satan is not omnipresent, everywhere at once, as God the Father is. God alone is omniscient and omnipresent. He knows all things and is everywhere at all times. Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen (1 Timothy 1:17).
The psalmist was likewise overwhelmed by the knowledge of God, and realized that such knowledge was possible because of its omnipresence. In Psalms 139:1 4 he stated, O LORD, thou hast searched me and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether. Verse 6: Such knowledge is too wonderful for me: it is high ....
He also realized that, given the omnipresence of God, one cannot hide from Him or run from His presence. Thus, he continued in verses 7 to10, Whithershall I go from this spirit? Or whithershall I flee from thy presence? If I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea: Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
This is the difference between the Lord God Almighty and the devil. Satan is a finite or limited being. Since he can only be in one place at one time, he must have a mobilized army of demons to relay messages to him. Thus, the demons-millions and millions of them-do Satan’s bidding and then bring reports of victory to their commander-in-chief. The Bible states that Satan is the prince of the devils or demons (see Mark 3:22). He is the general of the wicked armies of heaven. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12).
These verses specify an order of demonic powers, complete with a four-star general (Satan), lieutenants, corporals, and right on down to buck privates. Ephesians 1:20,21 and Colossians 1:16 also verify this truth. Such organization is possible because multiplied millions of demons exist. In fact, they are so plentiful that when the Lord Jesus asked the demon his name in Mark 5:9, this spirit replied, My name is Legion: for we are many. In the Roman army, a legion consisted of 6,000 men. Thus, we see that 6,000 demons controlled one man in this reference. When Jesus Christ set him free, 2,000 of these wicked spirits entered into a herd of nearby swine (see Mark 5:13).
I believe that many of the mental problems relating to suicide and numerous other human heartaches are the result of demonic work. Too long have we categorized every such illness as "nervous exhaustion" or "a mental disorder." Yes, the god of this world has an army of highly organized beings powerful enough to control lives and possess bodies, and who are able to bring depression and death if one allows them the victory.
In Matthew 12:43 to 45, Jesus speaks of a man who has been liberated from Satan's power coming under bondage again. This time, seven other spirits take the place of the one who had originally vacated his body through exorcism. I firmly believe that in number there is at least one demon for every human being upon earth. This is why all mankind needs to have the blood of Jesus Christ personally applied for salvation. The blood of the Lord Jesus Christ is the, greatest weapon for putting the satanic hordes into flight!
Ch 7 The Ultimate Destruction of Demons.
First Peter 2:4 and Jude 6 inform us that a great Day of Judgment is coming for the demonic host. That day is also mentioned in 1 Corinthians 6:3 where the apostle Paul states, Know ye not that we [Christians] shall judge angels? Imagine! We believers will be the ones to see that the demons are sent to hell. see 1 Colossians 6:3 Notice also that this verse does not speak of a judgment of demons, but of "angels." If the fallen angels are not demons, then the demons will never be judged. This, of course, is impossible. The fallen angels are the demons. There can be no other conclusion.
The Bible also teaches that wicked, and unrepentant human beings, that is all who are not born again for Jesus Said. John 3:3 Verily, verily I. say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. That’s right. will not see the kingdom of heaven. but will also be cast into the place of eternal torment. Then shall [Christ] say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41). Originally, hell was prepared only for the devil and his cohorts. Yet those who, like the fallen angels, forsake the Saviour to follow Satan will also be assigned to the final hell, or the lake of fire (see Revelation 20:15).
What about YOU? Have you come to Calvary's cross, viewed the uplifted Saviour, and realized that His precious blood was shed for YOUR sins? There is no other way. Sinful mankind can come to the Father only through Jesus His Son. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). If you have not yet come to the cross, won't you do so right now? Turn from your sin and pray the following words with all your heart.
Oh, Jesus, I believe that You are the only way to eternal life. You died and rose again for me. I now accept the merits of Your work on the cross.. I receive Your shed blood for my sin. Come into my heart and lead my life. Amen.
When you receive Christ, you will immediately be set free from the power of Satan, his demons, and sin. If you say no to Christ, you will live with these vile, malicious spirits in the horrible place of suffering for all eternity. Don't delay. Be saved today!
Ch 8 We want to continue again in our study on Satan and his demons.
First Timothy 4:1 states, Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils. Thus, the Bible pictures the last days as a period of time given over to the reign of demonic spirits. A falling away. Remember Satan’s first temptation? (Genesis 3:1. Yea, hath God said.) It is still the same today. Question the word of God regarding head covering, clothing, and a little drink. Yes his tactics haven’t changed
We see during the 7 year period of time known as the Tribulation, the entire world will turn to devil worship. One of the reasons God will bombard the earth with judgment during the Tribulation Hour is that mankind will have accepted a new religion - one which honors Satan and his army of demons. In the midst of this mess [men] repent not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils (Revelation 9:20). Notice that the noun is plural, and therefore means "demons." The two Greek words are diabolus and demonia. Diabolus is the one devil - Satan - and demonia means "a plurality of demons." Thus, men will make evil spirits gods in the last days. Already we see the dawning of this frightening era. Remember brother sister don’t be afraid, or alarmed . Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
Mankind's increasing infatuation with the spirit world will lead to the appearance of the Antichrist, or world dictator, who will rule over all nations during the Tribulation Hour. Since he comes to power through an international peace plan (see Daniel 9:27), the world will honour him as the substitute for Christ. We should note that the word antichrist does not always mean "against Christ." It can also mean "in place of," or "a substitute for the true Christ."
As a result of the Antichrist's peace plan, earth's citizens will respect him. However, they will not realize that Satan has chosen to enter the body of this individual in order that he may hold full sway over them. Second Thessalonians 2:3,4, describes this devil-possessed monarch: And that man of sin [shall] be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. Verses 8-10 state, And then shall that Wicked be revealed . . . whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish.
The Antichrist will be able to proclaim himself as God because the evil spirit of Satan energizing his body allows him the power to work "signs and lying wonders." The present-day fanatical rush toward demon-inspired activities and the rash of mental cultic groups which leave minds open to the invasion of seducing spirits is but the prelude to that which will soon occur when Satan's personal power dominates the world.
The devil and his malicious demons have long exercised their power to work signs and wonders, causing millions of humans to reject the truth of God's Word and the Lord Jesus Christ. Witchcraft, sorcery, ouija boards, clairvoyants, palm readers, fortune-tellers, tarot cards, numerology, tea leaf readers, crystal gazing, white magic, telepathy, séances, and the perpetrators of astrological charts are either one of two things (and I am giving them the benefit of the doubt): (1) fakes who put on a good show, (2) human beings energized by the demonic forces of the spirit world. A Christian should have nothing to do with the occult in any way, shape, or form! By doing so, he opens himself to demon-inspired influence and the judgment of God.
Deuteronomy 18:10 to 12 states, There shall not be found among you any one that . . . useth divination [fortune-telling], or an observer of times [astrological charts and horoscopes], or an enchanter [magicians having to do with real magic backed by evil spirits as opposed to "the hand is quicker than the eye" form], or a witch, or a charmer, or a consultor with familiar spirits [mediums possessed with a spirit or guide - even under the guise of religion, such as spiritualism which is really spiritism], or a wizard [a clairvoyant or psychic], or a necromancer [a medium who consults with the dead]. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord (emphasis mine).
In 1 Chronicles 10:13, we find that King Saul of Israel died for his transgression which he committed against the Lord, even against the word of the Lord, which he kept not . . . [What was the horrible sin for which he died?] . . . For asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it. Yes, Saul went to a demon-possessed fortune-teller to peer into his future.
Christian, this is a dangerous business! Unsaved man, woman, boy, or girl, dealing with the spirit world and purchasing all the garbage sold in the occult stores can only bring you into league with the devil and his vile, malicious spirits who delight in wreaking havoc and misery in your life! Heed the admonition of the great Prophet Isaiah, and when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? (Isaiah 8:19). The answer for all - Christian and the unbeliever alike - is to turn to the Almighty, not demon-controlled humans.
Ch 9 Demons and Their Power
Because of the supernatural characteristics and powers possessed by demons, one immediately becomes vulnerable when he toys with Satan and his hosts - even when doing so "in fun" or "out of curiosity." Beware!
Lucifer, the prince of the fallen angels or demons, and his co-workers have basically the same characteristics.
First, they are personalities, not mere influences alone (see Mark 1:25). They also possess intelligence (see Matthew 12:44,45) and speak. The unclean spirit speaking through the man he possessed in Mark 1:24 cried out, Leave us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth?
Not only can demons influence people, they can actually use the vocal cords of human beings. In fact, the Hebrew Old Testament word egastromuthos means ''a ventriloquist demon."
Demons also possess the ability to deceive. Revelation 12:9 states that Satan deceives the entire world. In addition, demons can afflict one physically. In 2 Corinthians 12:7, Paul states, There was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me. They also have the power to bind multitudes with a spirit of infirmity (see Luke 13:11). Demons also hinder (see 1 Thessalonians 2:18) and lie (John 8:44 says that Satan is the father of all lies).
One important function of the demons' work is to get Christians to believe lies. How often Christian workers believe the gossip of church members concerning the pastor or other believers. In such cases, the demon is not only behind the lie, but behind the wicked mind which readily accepts it. Don't believe the carnal tales emanating from the lips of some church members. First Timothy 5:19 warns, Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses. Again I say, do not let demon influence ruin your church just because one member accepts the lie a satanic spirit has placed in his mind. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7).
Demons also sap the strength of Christians, or in modern English, they "put them through the mill" via trials and tribulations (see Luke 22:31, 32). Then, too, they work through the minds of human beings to create periods of depression, self-torture, and even suicide. Read Mark 5 carefully. The man of Gadara was possessed by demons that caused him to run through the local graveyard naked, cut himself with stones, and live in constant torment (verses 2 5).
Ch 10 We want to continue our study of Satan and his demons. This message deals with how we can overcome the power of the demons.
Now that we fully realize the awesome powers demons possess, let's talk about those things they CAN'T do. We begin by discovering that Satan and his henchmen can't make one do anything his mind rejects. Flip Wilson had it wrong when he said, "The devil made me do it," for God's Word says, Every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed (James 1:14). Knowing this, Satan's hell-bound cohort’s plant thoughts of stealing, vow breaking, swearing, coveting, revenge, deceit, seduction, jealousy, slander, gossip, greed, hoarding, anger, discouragement, drinking, drugs, fornication, adultery, orgies, and even sickness in the human mind. The flesh reacts through the mind-gate or mental processes and BANG - the individual caught unprepared or unawares responds by committing the demon-inspired act. However, if one resists the devil and his workers of iniquity through a mind given over to pure thinking, victory begins immediately.
If one continues heeding the advice of an evil spirit, that spirit will bring in reinforcements and soon possess him (see Matthew 12:44, 45). As a result, he may be led into further depravity, perhaps even becoming a murderer. What? That's right. Jesus said in John 8:44, [Satan] was a murderer from the beginning. Whom did he murder? Although he didn't perform the act personally, he placed the desire in Cain's heart to murder his brother, Abel (see Genesis 4:8). Likewise, Satan's buck privates are capable of invading minds to induce thoughts of murder and suicide.
In Matthew 17:15, a man came to Jesus saying, Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. In other words, this man's son had tried to commit suicide by throwing himself into the fire and through attempted drowning. What was the Saviour's answer. Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour (verse 18).
Praise God, (The weapons of [the Christian's] warfare are not carnal [of this world], but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds ;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4,5).
In closing, let's consider these additional questions: Were Jerusalem, Capernaum, and the cities of Samaria and Galilee filled with mentally depressed people? Were they just overworked and overtaxed physically? Were they all suffering from nervous frustration and exhaustion? A million times no! Granted, a great deal of that which takes place in one's life is the result of his running at a rapid pace without ever taking time to slow down. Still, ministers do a great service for the devil when promoting psychiatry and psychology as the only answer to every problem and ill of mankind.
Remember - the same demons who ran rampant in Christ's day are as alive and active today as they were then. Demons do not die. Thus, Satan and his evil army remain as powerful and determined as ever. Their purpose and their methodology have not changed. Oh, how we need to resist the devil in this twentieth century!
Too many believers think that the battle is finished and fail to heed the admonition of I Peter 5:8, Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.
Yes, this present world system is literally filled with wicked spirits - and no unconverted, unsaved, irreligious psychiatrist will ever be able to exorcise a demon. Thank God for every Christian psychiatrist and psychologist who recognizes problems resulting from demonic powers and then helps his patient both physically and spiritually.
As a final note, may I emphasize that only the unsaved can be demon-possessed. Christians can only be influenced mentally. Still, it is important to realize that the results can become overwhelming.
What is the answer? To the unsaved, I say, "Please, come to Jesus today." When one receives Christ as personal Saviour, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within and the new convert becomes a partaker of the divine nature (see 2 Peter 1:4). The Holy Spirit and a demon cannot dwell within the same body. There is no room for both, and any demon or demons present will be forced to flee. That's why 1 John 4:4 says, Ye are of God, little children [newborn Christian], and have overcome them [Satan and his evil spirits]: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Yes Christian’s its for you too there is no need to worry. because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
Oh, unbeliever, you have suffered long enough. Believe the message of Christ's cross and His blood shed for the forgiveness of your every sin. Trust Him as your Saviour and Deliverer.
To those Christians who find themselves influenced through thought patterns and suggestions, I say, "Resist the devil in your thought life, calling upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ." James 4:7 states, Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Psalms 19:14 and 139:23,24 are also good verses to memorize.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things (Philippians 4:8). Let's get on our knees. Let's get into God's Word. Therein lies victory and therein lies deliverance and revival. Without victory and revival, sin will continue to permeate the lives of millions as satanic forces continue to enslave the masses.
The origin of Satan, his fall, his present domain and work, and his final destruction. The origin of demons and their attributes and work have also been presented. In addition, we have seen that witchcraft, sorcery, ouija boards, palm readers, crystal gazing, white magic, I Ching, telepathy, tarot cards, astrological charts, and the Oriental meditation cults are undoubtedly associated with demonic spirits in high places (see Ephesians 6:12). Such practices are condemned by the Almighty God, and His people are to avoid them at all costs.
In this final study, we will investigate the great increase in occult activities presently taking place in America and other nations of the world. What about the church of Satan, for example? Do the worshippers actually submit to immoral sex acts in the rites of this church? Do they cut their bodies and make "blood pacts?" Are fingers severed in order to offer sacrifices to Lucifer? What about other forms of supernatural activity? Are fortunetellers, clairvoyants, palm readers, spiritists and voodoo participants in league with demons? We need to be aware of what is happening and why it is happening. Let's look at the facts.
Ch 11 Satan's Church
San Francisco, California, is the home of the First Church of Satan and headquarters for that organization. Billy Zeoli of Gospel Films in Muskegon, Michigan, went to the area to research a movie on demonism and discovered that 4,000 of the 8,000 local devil worshippers had left evangelical, Bible-preaching churches to join the temple of Satan! As we discovered in chapter 3, this is exactly what the Bible predicts for the latter times (see 1 Timothy 4:1 and Revelation 9:20).
Not only is the church of Satan a fulfillment of this prophecy, but the numerous mind religions which deny the doctrine of Christ also have as their leaders human beings who have become controlled by evil spirits. Beware of any religious group . Even Ministers of the cloth.(that deny the virgin birth of Christ, His deity (the fact that He is God), His blood atonement, or bodily resurrection. Avoid individual preachers in the mainline denominations who scoff these truths and declare the Bible a book of myths. Such men have become possessed by demons. And will suffer their reward. The bible says Luke 17:2 It would be best for that person to be thrown into the sea with a large stone hung around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to lose his faith. O their Judgement will be great.
This is why 1 John 4:13 warns, Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. [Either the Holy Spirit or a demonic spirit controls the teacher, and we are to test these teachers to see which spirit controls them. What is the test?] Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit [or teacher] that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist ....
One either has the Spirit of Christ, or he has the spirit of the Antichrist which is a demonic presence dwelling within him. Watch out for these demons in the pulpit who make light of the cross and the blood. Remember the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness (1 Corinthians 1:18). It is foolishness to them because a demonic spirit feeds them this lie. Those who give attention to their sermons are actually hearing from a human being energized by Satan as such a minister mocks God's Holy Word.
Ch 12 Satanic Deliverance.
So important is the Bible's message concerning the power of the demonic world that I want to reemphasize God's provision of deliverance through salvation. When one receives the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour he becomes a partaker of His divine nature (see 2 Peter 1:4). In other words, God dwells within him through the Holy Spirit. Because of this fact, the satanic hosts are unable to penetrate a Christian as far its possession is concerned. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them [the powers of evil] because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4).
Again, in 1 John 3:9 we read, Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for this [God's] seed remaineth in him....This seed--the Holy Spirit--- abiding the believer, will not permit an evil spirit to live in the same body with Christ. in addition. He empowers the individual to live a victorious, holy life. I can do all things though Christ which strengtheneth me (Philippians 1:13).
Yes, the answer for all is salvation through Jesus Christ If you have come under the influence of demonic powers through telepathy oriental mind cults such as transcendental meditation -which is nothing more than the religion of Hinduism--or under the bondage of some false religious group which mocks the doctrine of Christ, get saved today. The Holy Spirit will immediately drive out and away the enemy who has held you captive. It you have been in contact with fortune-tellers, tea leaf readers, parapsychologists, clairvoyants, crystal gazers, ouija boards, tarot cards or any of the one hundred and one other abominable practices of the occult world, let Jesus Christ come into your heart. He will readily and literally set you free!
When the Lord Jesus Christ lives in one's heart there is no room for demon possession; because Jesus consistently cast demons out during His ministry on earth. He cast out these spirits with His word (see Matthew 13:16). And he...cast out many devils and suffered not the devils to speak because theft knew him (Mark 1:34). And He preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out many devils (Mark 1:39). Jesus also gave His disciples authority over unclean spirits (see Mark 6:7). In Luke 10:19, 20, the Saviour said, Behold. I give you power to tread on serpents ...and nothing shall by any means hurt YOU ...the spirits are subject unto you. I repeat that, there is no room for demons in the heart of a Christian. Deliverance can be yours today through the Lord Jesus Christ.
To those who are Christians. I want to say that although you cannot be possessed by demons they can implant thoughts in your mind through suggestion , If you dwell upon such thoughts you will surely fall into sin. This is exactly what happened to Ananias and his wife Sapphira in Acts 5:3. But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost .... Oh, it is so important to control one's thought life--it is so important to obey James 4:7 Submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Get into God's Word. Study it. Memorize it. Apply it to your life day by day. Then the blessed Holy Spirit himself, and He, alone, will dominate, motivate, and control your life.
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not (Jeremiah 33:3).
Ch 13 Satan's objective.
Remember Christian the Satan is a master and will use any means possible to take you down." Like. Hath God Said." Is that what he really meant, the old testament doesn't apply. One sin doesn't matter. Are only some. Why did God Throw Him out of Heaven? Simply Pride. Why were our first pearence thrown out of the Garden. simply not listening to Gods Word. Don't fall into his trap.
Ephesians 6:10. to 16. Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,
Take note. it is important to put on the whole armour of God when facing the devil. Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. O so many have left this piece of equipment behind. And the devil has got so many bound in chains, of depression thinking they are bound by some Curse, or spell. God forbid.
John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. Yes. Free. Free from all bondage.
Galatians 4:31 So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.
Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, Yes made us free. and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Let us get it right no child of God should be in bondage to Satan, Remember God makes no difference sin is sin, let it be big or small, But let us rather giving thanks that we are free, Now look at these verses and forget foolish talk, Colossians 1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
Ephesians 5:4 too 7 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
To be fearful of Satan and his followers is what he wants, listen what God says about the fearful. Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Lets take a look at the next verses for their true meaning.
Exodus 20:4 to v 6. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth :Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. Yes the Curse, is to the third and fourth generation. Of those who hate God. But those who love him. . God. and keep his commandments God shows mercy. He Removes the yoke of bondage, how wonderful is the word of God
John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. Listen to Gods word, if you remain in bondage and fear, you are disobedient to His word, yes disobedient to Gods word and their for none of his, Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. 1John 1:6 7 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. That's right all sin, not some sin, but all sin present past and any other sin, was paid for at Calvary. With out faith it is impossible to please God, so to defeat Satan use all the armour, along with the word of GOD which is the sword of the spirit, along with faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Proverbs 3:5 6 7 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
