| Maynilad Water Services Inc. was awarded the western half of the Metro Manila water distribution concession in August 1997. Maynilad water is tasked to transform the operation of a 119 year old water utility into an efficient and modern water distribution system, aside from setting up sanitation and sewerage systems. In the course of its 25 year concession agreement with the government, Maynilad Water will supply clean water 24 hours a day to approximately six million people in the western zone in 10 years. This area has some 500,000 subscribers with only about two-thirds having access to potable water. Maynilad Water currently distributes water in the west zone while include the following areas: Metro Manila Cavite Manila Bacoor Pasay Kawit Las Pinas Imus Malabon Cavite City Muntinlupa Noveleta Valenzuela Rosario Navotas Paranaque Caloocan Quezon City* Taguig* *Partially covered by Maynilad Water Maynilad Water is 50% owned by Benpres, 1% by Metropolitan Bank and Trust Co., and 40% by Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux, a French multinational company with interest in water treatment and distribution, construction, broadcasting and communications, energy and waste management. |
