| Mandrake (Arlaun, Brain Theif, Hexenmannchen (Witches' Mannikin in German), Zauberwurzel (Sorcerer's Root in German), Devil's Candle, Devil's Light, Root of Evil, Little Gallows Man, Circe's Plant, Warlock Root): UNSAFE!!!! The root is human shaped, and is used to make Arlauns. Where there is mandrake, demons cannot reside, therefore it is used in exorcism. It is said that the person who pulls the root of the mandrake from the earth will hear a deafening scream from the plant, and be promptly cursed, so dogs would be tied to the root to pull it out for their masters. Mugwort (Artemis Herb, Artemisia, Felon Herb, Naughty Man, St. John's Plant) TOXIC! Should be picked on St. John's Eve for full potency. Use for consecration, protection, strength. An infusion of Mugwort is used to cleanse scrying mirrors and crystal balls as a psychic empowerer. Mullein (Aaron's Rod, Blanket Leaf, Candlewick Plant, Feltwort, Velvet Plant, Torches, Hag's Tapers, Graveyard Dust, Witches' Candle, Mummy Dust): Use in a dream pillow to guard against nightmares. The dried, powdered leaves can be used as a substitute for graveyard dust. Nettle (Stinging Nettle): Used to remove a curse. Thrown into a fire to avert danger. Place freshly cut Nettle under a sick persons bed to aid in the person's recovery. In the sixteenth century it was recommended as a antidote to henbane. Nettle tea is said to stimulate the kidneys, rid the body of worms, cure diarrhea, stop internal bleeding and to purify the blood. Always wear protective gloves when collecting Nettle; it stings your hands like a mad hornet. Sage (Garden Sage, Sawge): To the Ancients, sage was associated with immortality and credited with mental capacity. It is said to cure skin sores and warts. Write a wish on a sage leaf and hide it beneath your pillow. Sleep on it for three nights. If you dream of what you have wished, it will come true. But if not, bury the sage leaf in the ground to prevent harm coming to you. Slippery Elm (Indian Elm, Moose Elm, Yu): Burn this and throw into a fire with a knotted yellow cord or thread to stop gossip against you. Use in exorcism, protection, spell breaking and more! Wormwood (Absinthe, Old Woman, Green Ginger, Crown for a King): UNSAFE! A description of Wormwood has been found on Egyptian Papyrus that is dated at 1600 BC. Used as an pest repellent (mice hate it!). Absinthe, which was made using the leaves and flowering tops of Wormwood and other aromatic plants, was a very addictive drink that would lead to mental disturbance, seizures and even death. It is a belief that the painter Vincent Van Gogh had been messed up on it when he cut off his ear. Wormwood is now banned, but is still used to make Vermouth and Campari. It can be used for clairvoyance, divination, psychic development and growth and spell breaking. Burned to summon spirits. Yarrow (Arrow Root, Achillea, Bloodwort, Death Flower, Carpenter's Weed, Devil's Nettle, Dog Daisy, Milfoil, Thousand Leaf, Woundwort): Sacred to the Horned God. Carried in a bride's bouquet or hung over the bed to ensure seven year of good marriage. Use in clairvoyance, consecration, divination, fertility, good luck, longevity, protection and more. Attracts friends and distant relations you wish to contact. When dealing with the authenic form of I Ching, Yarrow Stalks were involved. Applied for centuries upon open wounds to stop bleeding. Sew Yarrow into a flannel bag and place under your pillow to dream of your true love; if you ever dream of cabbages while this is under your pillow, then death or serious misfortune is about to strike. |
