New Baby Ratties
October 11, 2003
3:09 pm- I'm having trouble finding names... Maybe I'll be inspired when I see them when I go to visit tomorrow. My friend Jessy might be spending the night tonight so she can go with me tomorrow morning. Some of the names I'm considering are Mia, Bubka, Chiku, Pepita, Reebok, and Adidas.Chiku means "chatterer" in Africa- you know I have to get that. Bubka is the record pole vaulter, Mia Hamm is excellent at soccer, Pepita's Spanish and I'm taking that in school... Reebok and Adidas are sporty, I'm sporty... Lilac's on my lap right now. I hope she'll get along well with the new girls if I just take it nice and slow.
**This will serve as a diary for you to keep up to date on the new gals!**

9:03 pm- I went to the Kandal's Ratties Rattery to get 2 gals! At first I got lost and couldn't find her home, but then I did and my what an impressive collection of ratties! So many adorable babies... I eventually came to the decision to get girls from 2 different litters (but were living together). The first is Chiku, a blue gal with a headspot born September 14. The second is Pepita/Bubka (still haven't decided), a gray masked dumbo born September 2. They were all so friendly at the rattery, it was hard to choose! I'm happy with my choices though, and they appear to be very healthy but I'm continuing strictly with quarantine. They're shy when I go to get them out, but once I do they're sweet. It won't be long before I get them out of their shells! I have Lilac on my lap right now. These new babies really make me appreciate her socialization, calmness, and gentility. She really is an amazing sweetheart! I miss Quinn loads as well. She was a magnificent critter, Quinn. I will always love her, this I know.Hope to get pics of the new gals up soon...

6:36 pm- The gals are doing fine. Sorry I haven't been keeping up! Everybody's living together now. Lilac's bitten Chiku and Pepita in the ear (enough to draw blood), but I don't think she did it in pure malice or anything. They haven't been fighting at all really for the past couple days. On Halloween I passed out candy with the girls (rotating) on my shoulder- lots of comments! I should have pictures up before the month is out- or at least by Christmas (getting a new webcam then). Note: Pepi has been sneezing, so I'm trying to switch bedding back to aspen... If anyone has any questions about their progress or my views on the introduction process, be sure to email me!
