Topography: "As an actor, the more real the set, the better, but sometimes they can go a bit too far and make it too real," laughs Paul Leyden (Simon). "The difficulties were the fact that Martha [Byrne, Lily] and I were getting our feet cut up every single day because they had real rocks and shells, and we were barefoot the whole time. Back in Australia, I walked around most of my life without shoes on, so I was used to it. But poor Martha -- every day she would stub her toe on something or get bits of shell under her toenails." Regulation Gear: "We only had one change of clothes the entire four months, so we kind of smelled, I guess. For me, they had two different pairs of cut-off black pants that I wore the whole time. They must have saved a lot of money on the wardrobe budget for me and Martha for the time we were there." Hostiles? "There was no wildlife. But we did have Cooley. He was haunting us a lot of the time." Camouflage: "I had a tan. I don't believe in tanning salons, but it was summer, and I'm always on the beach, even if it's a scummy New York beach. I get tanned quite easily, but Martha was still pale because she's too busy as a mom to worry about that, and she was playing Rose at the same time. It was funny, the difference in color between the two of us by the end of it." R & R: "The hot spring was really well done. It was made of fake rocks, obviously, with a fiberglass middle, like a spa. There were spa seats and jets in it. Those were the good days, when we had scenes in there. It was like sitting in a jacuzzi -- it was weird."
