My feeling about meters and forms generally is that for a good poeta poet who has the strength to take them overthey are undated and indeed timeless. For such a poet, they are simply instruments or contraptions which heighten and empower his wordsunderlining the shape and steps of the argument, giving it an appropriate music, honing the colloquial movement, hitting the important words hard, charging the utterance in every way.
