"No." she muttered, "she'd understand. Best friends understand these things."
"Then, it's because of him." he countered, giving her a knowing look, but she returned his look with her same confused face.
"No." she replied, "I don't understand why you think it's because of someone." Laura, a little uneased, turned away from Tal and forcefully slammed the orange ball against the back board again, this time it flying past the hoop and into the soft grass. "Tal! Your always so persistent. And it's starting to make me sick."
When she turned around to face him, to see how he reacted to her words, he was no where to be found. Taking a deep breath of air, Laura turned and trudged farther out into the yard. She stopped where it wasn't so shaded by the trees, and looked up at the silver dotted blanket above her.
Closing her eyes, Laura took in a deep, long breath of air. Just feeling the brisk fall air circle around her. Enjoying the moment, a soft smile slipped across her lips as memories of the past began to float back to her.
The stars glistened, and she layed in the soft grass. His head rested next to hers, semi-long locks letting off a wildflower smell which circled around her. It was silent, not a word spoken between the two.
She could still hear his heart beating rapidly, he was nervous, just as nervous as she was. And the silence really wasn't making it any better for them.
"It's the north star." he grinned, trying to break the silence which was slowly killing the moment. He tilted his head slightly to look at her, his blue eyes glistening as were the stars.
"Actually...your pointing south." she laughed, "The star....is that way." she motioned slightly with her head, before looking at him with a little smile.
"No. Actually, the star...is right next to me." And with that, he leaned in and pressed his lips against hers, their first kiss. Oh, how she longed to feel his lips ever since that day.
"What are you doing?" she almost jumped out of her skin when she felt the warm air against the back of her neck. Spinning around, Laura stared intently at the taller figure in front of her.
"I was thinking." she barked out, still trying to swallow her heart which was stuck in the middle of her throat.
"About?" Gil inquired.
"Nothing."
"Where did Tal go?"
"I don't keep tabs on your little brother. I never have. Never will."
Gil was slightly shocked at Laura's reaction to what he had said about Tal, usually she knew where everyone went and was glad to tell others. "Is something bothering you?" He stated, shoving his hands into the pockets of his coat.
"Not really." she wispered, smiling weakly to him.
"It seems like something is." he muttered, "You want to go for a walk, clear your mind?"
"That sounds decent." she grinned.
